After a two-day hearing where the dirty laundry piled up by former Fire Department Chief Carlos Elizondo was fully aired, the Brownsville Civil Service Commission denied his appeal to get his job back as a Brownsville firefighter.
The commission heard his appeal over a two-day period beginning Thursday morning and returned its decision late in the afternoon Friday after deliberating for about an hour.
The Commission was charged with determining whether Elizondo should be reinstated as a civil servant for the Brownsville Fire Department.After he was demoted as chief, Elizondo held the rank of lieutenant. That is the rank he held when he was placed on indefinite suspension.
Many observers say that the hearing before the commission was the first step by the former chief in anticipation of the filing a wrongful termination lawsuit in state or federal court.
On Sept. 20, 2019, a jury of eight women and four men – after deliberating for about 4 hours – declared Elizondo not guilty on six counts of computer security breach and that he accessed the Brownsville Fire Department Emergency Reporting System while suspended by the city and without its consent to access the reporting system.
He still faces a separate indictment accusing him of theft and misapplication of fiduciary duty over allegations he stole from the firefighters association.

VALLEY FOOTBALL: The La Feria Lions ran into a buzzsaw during the area round of the University Interscholastic League playoffs, with their undefeated season coming to an end at the hands of the Liberty Hill Panthers 66-7 on Friday night at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio. “We just got beat by a better team tonight,” La Feria coach Oscar Salinas said. “They did a good job running their offense. When they got up early, it was tough to come back.”
Liberty Hill entered the game with a record of 6-5.

This vindictive act by these liars will come back to haunt each one of them. Carlos will win a HUGE lawsuit against the COB and ultimately it will be the citizens who lose. This antiquated "Compadre" system of justice always hurts our city and our residents. Remember we have the power to stop this corruption by wisely exercising our vote.
Elizondo is a slug and deserves "Nada". The city made a big mistake hiring him and from there on he destroyed his own life and career. Elizondo is a "hustler" and his actions prove he is not a public servant, but a "self-server".
Thank Charlie, for this mess. He put this guy as chief. Had they chosen a better candidate the city wouldn't be in this mess. Thank goodness he didn't win for mayor!
In the meantime the ex employee should absorb all court costs!
The Civil Service Board obviously made their decision and I'm guessing because of the pending criminal charges? I am still reeling over the
"not guilty" verdict on SIX indictments? To me with the past experience in LE and prosecutions, Luis Saenz' ADA did a very "poor" job on presenting the case to the jury? Or maybe the ADA just rubbed the jury the wrong way? Either way, it appears to me that Carlos Elizondo just might walk away from the pending charges? I am sure that Mr. Saenz is pondering whether to go to trial unless he tries it himself?
I am still reeling over the not guilty verdict on the well known crook, Tony Yzaguirre! Yes, it was tried in Nueces County but that was a very weak case from the start and that' just judging it over the reports by the Herald. Just a reminder, that the Feds who chose to prosecute from the Limas conspiracy had Tony back then and it was a solid case! Oh well, a lot of people walked away for reasons unknown!
Carlos, I know that you have mud on the politicos like Charlie Cabler who resigned under very suspicious circumstances and NOW we know why or at least we think we know why? No surprise that the corruption is still rampant along with nepotism in Cameron County!
Oh, you just got to love that Ben Neece TOOK full advantage of getting to "rip" into Cabler!
