Tamaulipas online newspapers have identified two Los Fresnos residents as fatalities in a horrific three-car crash.
The dead – identified as Luis Edgar Perez and Bryan Corpus - were traveling Sunday night near the intersection of Agapito Gonzalez Cavazos and Pedro Cardenas with 24-year-old Johnathan Amaro, allegedly a Brownsville Police Department officer (or a Brownsville Independent School District police officer) who is blamed for the accident.
Amaro was hospitalized and news report that no charges have been filed and that his family is attempting to get him across the river to Brownsville. Another victim, an 18-year-old student at the University of Matamoros, is also hospitalized for her injuries, which are said to be serious. A passenger in her car is also hospitalized in stable condition.
The Los Fresnos residents and Amaro were reportedly traveling aboard a white Ford Escape. News accounts state that the Escape sped into the intersection and was struck by the woman's Dodge Charger. The woman lost control of the Charger and it in turn struck a Volkswagen van. The force of the impact was so great that the motor flew off the Escape and struck a black Chrysler 300 nearby.
