JULIO GRAÑA: WHERE IS OUR PORT'S CHAIRMAN?

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

With only about two and a half months to go before the elections at the port of Brownsville, Place 3 candidate Julio Graña is firing the first shot across the bow of his opponent incumbent John Reed.

In direct and pointed criticism of the incumbent for remaining silent on the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis, Graña, makes no bones about his opinion that the chairman of the Brownsville Navigation District is out of touch with the people in the district.

Graña in blunt about the "clubby" nature of the board, out of touch with the electorate, and insulated from the district's taxpayers and residents.

He states on his Face book page:
"It is not a matter of who gets elected, it is about caring for our region.

Arguably, for years we have seen the distance between the Port's leadership and the citizens of our great community. Some feel as though they make whatever decisions they desire, without us knowing about it.

Take this, for example:
Although leadership at the City of Brownsville, Cameron County, and BISD have stated their measures and constant monitoring of the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis, where is the Port Of Brownsville? Are we taking the necessary precautions to control this Virus?

We have heard from our Mayor, our County Judge, and Superintendent, where is our Port Chairman?

The Federal Government has called this an Emergency and even restricted travel from Europe and Asia, among many other countries.

Are we screening cargo at the port? Is there is a screening process for individuals arriving with these ships? If there is a risk for our region, shouldn't the Port of Brownsville be one of our primary concerns?

It is very likely that after this post, they will start informing us about the measures they are taking, but, in my opinion, this is one of the many things I consider "Lack of Leadership" from our Port Chairman.

When an elected official runs unopposed for 16 years, things are taken for granted, and you simply stop caring for the community you represent.                                                                                                                          (Click to enlarge.)
When people are silent in a crisis, that is NOT leadership."

Will notices suddenly appear from the port to the residents concerns? We searched the port's website and so far, nothing about the port's preparations - if any - have appeared. Will we see something from the Golden Ditch's perennial chairman?

Let the games begin!

So much for leadership at the Port.

There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation swirling around the virus, so here are quick just-the-facts answers to your most urgent concerns, based on current knowledge.

Q: What are the symptoms I should watch for?

Fever (88%) and dry cough (68%) are two of the most common symptoms, followed by fatigue, thick mucus coughed from lungs, shortness of breath, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, headache, and chills.

Q: If I have those symptoms, should I go to my doctor or the hospital?

Right now, the CDC recommends you distance yourself from others, including your family and your pets. If you can, designate a separate bedroom and bathroom for yourself. Call your provider and tell them you suspect COVID-19. Remind them of any travel and if you are over 60 or have underlying conditions like diabetes or a heart condition. Don't share dishes/glasses with anyone; wash hands often; clean surfaces frequently. Stay hydrated.
The CDC does not recommend you go to the hospital unless you have shortness of breath, persistent chest pain, new confusion or strong lethargy, or a bluish tint to your lips or face. CDC's hotline number for questions: 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

Q: Why is there a shortage of tests in the U.S.? When will we get them?

The CDC’s initial test for the virus was faulty. And, for reasons that remain unknown, the U.S. opted not to rely on the World Health Organization’s test while the CDC developed a new one. Red tape slowed down academic labs that wanted to quickly develop their own. With both academic and commercial labs now pitching in, testing is becoming more widely available. But we’re still playing catch-up, and the virus has likely been spreading undetected in the meantime.

Q: What's known about children and COVID-19?

Children, fortunately, rarely seem to experience severe complications from the coronavirus, but it's not known whether children with underlying conditions may be at higher risk for severe illness. It's unclear what about children's immune systems is protecting them.

Q: What stage is the outbreak in the U.S.?

The virus has now been confirmed in 49 states plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. However, due to the lack of testing, the level of infection in the U.S. beyond the currently confirmed 2,952 cases is unknown. Scientists believe the number of infections doubles roughly every five to six days. Some think the U.S. and the rest of Europe could follow Italy's exponential trajectory arc, but this will depend on how effective school closings and event stoppages are at flattening the trajectory curve of the outbreak.

The Spanish Dandy can't articulate proper English, neither have the ability of saying words correctly. Deborah Portillo former COB commissioner and now Executive VP of BIG LLC, must be pushing to have her dearest friend, the "Dandy" junior to be on the BND board....

That’s a stretch......

The port ran well until the pinche mestizos politicized it (starting with that p.o.s Dan(the penguin) Reyna). Piss on all of you.

WTF Grana didn't deliver when he was on the BCVB BOD, same individual same shit; he wants to make the frontpage? Vendors and employees of his business would speak the truth on his tarnished M.O. of conducting business.

The navigation district commissioners think they represent the port. Somehow, they must think the port is a voting entity and that it voted for them. They are actually our representatives to the port. The port should be run for the benefit of the people of the navigation district, not the benefit of the port. That means that sometimes they must make decisions that may not benefit the port but do benefit the population that the port serves, such as insuring they don't do things that may pollute our air and water. Yeah, LNG would mean more business for the port, and probably result in bonuses or pay raises for port administrators, but the level of pollution produced when natural gas is liquified will not benefit the rest of us and, the unsightly mess, along with the pollution, is bound to have an effect on tourism on the Island, Port Isabel and Brownsville.

Isn't this guy from Harlingen? Are all the Harlingen problems taken care of and now he wants to fix Brownsville's? Can he even be on the ballot?

So many questions! - Are all the guest at his hotel being screened upon arrival? Are you turning away guests that are attending crowds larger than 50 (spring breakers)? tell us how you're managing to do that?

If the BISD Board of Trustees feels its the School Superintendent's job to make the decisions about how to deal with the virus, then it appears that Campriano, the Port Director should be making decisions.....So, Granjo is just pissing in the wind here. Not good to start using the virus for political gain.

Grana is a complete idiot from Harlingen, typical detractor of the local idiosyncrasy, not a fit for the community

I will teach and show any one the art of Muff diving, your wife or your girlfriend. It may take a while but it is free states the Scumbag Rene Oliveira while he was visiting the Port of Brownsville

Anybody is better than what there is at the port, and fire that puppet wanna be white coco

Anonymous said...

Oh, yeah.. I brought up the subject so now the Port is going to release a statement... get real dude, we're not you're idiot friends you're talking to.

We might need leadership at the Port of Brownsville, but you're not the solution. Maybe the Port of Harlingen can use your leadership skills?

Hey julio dale gas you can win LNG needs to go so does el coco puppet

The chairman is out there doing his job as he always has and always will. He doesn't spend his time on the pinche "paid for" blogs justifying his actions to a bunch of unprofessional bozos. Go back to HRL and run that port and bring it to the ranking of the BND...then we'll see if you are worthy enough for Brownsville. Que wannabe!!! This is a man's job, not for chamacos.

The Port has been very upfront handling the crisis, go visit their website and you will see how they care for the community and how they provide information about it. We need to do our part and visit their website, we cannot expect John Reed to show up in our doorstep to tell us what they are doing. Of course ships are inspected before allowing docking and if any crew member is sick the whole ship is rejected. No times really to try to get political gain out of this crisis.
