WHAT DO YOU DO WITH AN EMPTY SKATE PARK? SKATE! YA GOTTA LOVE DEM KIDS COVID-19 OR NOT!

(Ed.'s Note: You're a kid. You love to skateboard. Actually, you're pretty good at it. Not great, but pretty good. And then there, beckoning from just behind the open gates of the Brownsville Intermodal Terminal (yeah, the bus station) a perfect skate park with cement inclines and planes, iron rails, and all kinds of good stuff. And no people except for a couple of homeless who just watch and stick pretty much to their benches. Let 'er rip!)

What happens when businesses reluctantly decide to reopen because their governors are insisting on it, and they reluctantly tell their employees to come back - at reduced hours - and the employees reluctantly agree to work because it's either that or quit and neither option gives them any income or the chance at unemployment compensation - and so few customers brave coming in many of those businesses end up closing for good?

Neither Trump nor the governors are going to take any credit for that, are they?

What happens to the small businesses who struggle to stay open and then get socked with a much higher unemployment tax rate and their PPP loan comes due? (Remember, large businesses & corporations don't have to pay their millions back, but small businesses who got $10k DO have to pay theirs back.)

Trump's certainly not going to take any credit for that.

What happens when the second wave comes through in the fall and there aren't enough hospital workers to deal with it? Remember, they worked ten hour shifts for months and months with inadequate PPE, never getting much of a break because states relaxed their restrictions too early and too many people were all too willing to sacrifice someone's health for their freedom to get haircuts, lattes, and beach time. What happens when these overwhelmed health care professionals see that second wave coming? They've had months to understand the government and too many people don't have their backs.

Trump and the Republican governors aren't going to take any credit for that.

What happens when you're just lazy and don't want to work?
What happens when all you do is whine?

Even small Los Fresnos has a super skate board park in the middle of town. All we have are bike paths and bike lanes, thanks to Commissioner Rose Gowen and her bike buddies. She is out of touch with the youth of the city...have we heard about any city action toward a skate park or any recreational facilities to enhance local parks or open spaces. The last month or so, we haven't heard much from the City of Brownsville, except to declare that the car wash belonging to one City Commissioner is an "essential" business. And, Rose Gowen had one of her friend's business declared "essential". I'd prefer to get a haircut before I wash my car. The Mayor has said little, has done little and so I guess, for the second time in a row, we have a Mayor who serve himself and not the community.
