KRIS KRISTOFFERSON GETS THE BLUES OVER FOILED CENTER

"The city of Brownsville has concluded that a massive, mixed-use riverfront redevelopment project is not financially viable as things stand with the developer, and city staff has been pulled of the project.

City Manager Noel Bernal sent a letter to LandGrant Development President and CEO Sam Marasco III citing several reasons why the city believes the “via Americas” concept for the riverfront — officially the Riverfront and Railyard Redevelopment Program and Project — is unworkable without further, up-front financial commitment from the developer. via Americas was envisioned as a riverfront redevelopment project featuring as its principal catalyst the Rio Grande Esplanade, a 16-acre, mixed use urban development, plus the Kris Kristofferson Cultural Center."

IS CITY MANAGER NOEL BERNAL RESTRUCTURING CITY DEPARTMENTS?
Why me Noel, what have I ever done
To deserve even one
Of the rejections I've known

Tell me Noel, what did I ever do
Browntown (and you) turned me
down too
Despite the kindness I've shown.

Help me Lord Chuy, I've wanted it so
Help me Chuyito, I can't understand

Now that I know I've needed the center so
Help me Chuy, the center is in your hand.

Tell me Sam, if you think there's a way
Or tell me who do we pay
To kick-start this thing through

Maybe Sam, we'll convince someone else
Like we convinced ourselves
And we'll ram this thing through.

Help me Lord Chuy, I've wanted it so
Help me Chuyito, I can't understand

Now that I know I've needed the center so
Help me Chuy, the center is in your hand...

Best and smart decision by Mr. Bernal. The city can't afford giving money away without developers putting some money upfront. Welfare for the rich doesn't make sense. We have already subsidized too many projects that don't give the city any returns.

Good Job City...hold on the money...after COVID there will be no money....and please don't raise our taxes like the school district did.

Time to be conservative.

Help us dear Lord to survive our city manager's ego.

Just finished the projects we have going now. Then we can try to fund something else.

Time to consider cutting the workforce, beginning with city management, there te are too many assistants. A Deputy CM will be enough, that will save the city least a half million dollars annually on salaries.

Whatever the reason, it was a very good decision. I rather assume that the decision was based on evidence research and data. To assume that it was based on a "low balled bribe", bottom line it is a good decision that benefits all the taxpayers. Maybe if we start praising bureaucrats for their socially conscious decisions we will all be better of.
As far as BISD Raising taxes...don't hold your breath. BISD is losing student$$$$$$ but they are not willing to tighten the belt. To top it off..the CCAD will raise property appraisals and the taxpayer is still paying more taxes.

The City should have done that approach when the city bought La Casa Del Fraude (Nylon)

And please, no more spending on useless bikelines downtown. Glad that Cylocovias came to a halt, that was a needless spending of tax dollars that hardly anyone attended and drained city department's budgets.

Excellent decision.

This is not a time to spend.

Any excessive spending, raises (BISD) is not smart when families are struggling, businesses are struggling and closing......

BESIDES...i like Mr. Kris K but, does he even come to Brownsville ? ever? Does he give to Brownsville?

I would say our local businesses such as every car dealer give more then he has to Brownsville. Look around every little league, charro days, school has had donations from Fruia, Tipton, Tip O Tex, Cardenas....they give tons..name something after them.

The cost to built a car is 75% less than what its sold and they want more "GIVE ME A BREAK: go ask the govenment for more stimulus checks mamones, and besides they all look the same what idiotas we are...
