Editor’s note: This story has been corrected. According to Brownsville police, Ortiz was involved in two separate theft incidents. One that took place on Oct. 11 involving a Walmart and one that occurred on Oct. 9 at a Target.
Brownsville, Texas (KVEO)—A now former Brownsville police officer is accused of price tag switching in Target.
According to the incident report, on October 9, the Brownsville Police Department responded to the Target.
A woman, identified as Diane Ortiz, was seen picking up a decorative basket that was valued at $29.99 and tearing off a tag from a smaller decorative basket valued at $12.99.
Ortiz then was seen at self-checkout scanning the $12.99 tag for the $29.99 decorative basket, according to the report.
On October 14, Ortiz turned herself in following an arrest warrant for another theft. Ortiz was arrested on theft charges, a class B misdemeanor.
Following her arrest, Ortiz was placed on administrative leave. She then voluntarily resigned her post, said public information officer Jose Loredo with the Brownsville Police Department.

This lady brought our family food and medical supplies to our doorstep while we were quarantined. There are several families she has helped along the way, she would even follow up on our condition. Wait. A female cop charged with shoplifting an item less than $30 is ousted after less than 10 days. Meanwhile how many male officials from Brownsville stole thousands (Tony Izaguirre, pay attention here - and remember the cop Briseño who murdered Laura Lugo many years ago and committed insurance fraud while on duty?) yet continued to hold their positions? Another example of misogynistic Brownsville and it old boys clubs. Not saying this cop didn't deserve what she got. Being new to Brownsville and hearing about this sight from a friend who said if you want to know what reallly happens in Brownsville check out this sight. So hearing such negative talk about the Chief of Police on this sight I made it a point to do my own investigation.So every Cop I would run into I made small talk then eventually asking them about thier Chief. Most of them didn't danced around the question, some saying if you dont having any thing good to say don't say anything at all...lots of them said no comment.
So I do believe there is a problem.
Then I saw The Brownsville Police Chief appear on the news, terrible speaker and was unprofessional. So Brownsville you may have a problem..
