DESPITE BEING ONLY A SOPHOMORE REP., DOMINGUEZ GETS ON APPROPRIATIONS AND LANDS TWO VICE-CHAIRMANSHIPS

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

AUSTIN – The new Speaker Dade Phelan announced Texas House Committee assignments for the 87th Legislative Session. State Representative Alex Dominguez (D-Brownsville) was appointed to the Committee on Appropriations and was made Vice Chair of the Committee on Local & Consent Calendars and Vice Chair of the Committee on Environmental
Regulation.

Phelan made the announcement Thursday.

"I would like to thank Speaker Phelan for recognizing the strengths and experience that I bring by selecting me to serve as Vice Chairman for both the Committee on Environmental Regulation and the Committee on Local and Consent Calendars," said Dominguez.

The Committee on Appropriations has one of the broadest jurisdictions of any committee in the legislature. It has jurisdiction over the state budget in the Texas House of Representatives and is responsible for appropriating funding for most of the functions of the state government. Dominguez was the only valley representative to be appointed to the appropriations committee, notable since he has only been there for his second term.

"It is a great honor to represent the Valley delegation on the Appropriations Committee working with Chairman Greg Bonnen," Dominguez added.

"This is a great opportunity to work with different cities, regions, and agencies to prepare for our current and future budgetary needs. I am committed to work to preserve critical funding for public education, infrastructure, and public health in the state."

The Committee on Environmental Regulation has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to air, land, and water pollution, including the environmental regulation of industrial development and waste disposal. Additionally, Environmental Regulation oversees all environmental matters that are regulated by the Department of State Health Services and maintains oversight of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. In addition, Environmental Regulation oversees the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission.

The Committee on Local & Consent Calendars has jurisdiction over the placement on appropriate calendars of bills and resolutions that, in the opinion of the committee, are in fact local or will be
uncontested, and have been recommended as such by the standing committee of original jurisdiction.

In addition, Local and Consent Calendars determines the priorities for floor consideration of bills and resolutions except those within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Calendars.

Stop pumping up Dominguez, Montoya, and let him prove himself on his own. You glossing over every little thing about him is cheap theatrics.

Alex is a regular guy and hasn't forgotten where he came from.
All you haters out there are mad because he is a good person and works for people not special interests.
Alex keep up the good work!

Dominguez is a new representative. He is trying his best to survive the world of politics. People are going to support him. Other people are planning to get him out of Austin. There is a long line of people waiting to take his post. So, let him work , relax and enjoy his time as a Representative.
