In the days before the Democratic party runoff for Cameron County sheriff between eventual winner Eric Garza and incumbent Omar Lucio, the challenger's supporters leaked information about deputies being arrested for soliciting prostitutes in Hidalgo County, domestic violence and other sordid crimes.
"The protection you deserve," ran the Garza campaign slogan.
Voters believe it and Garza got voted in. And what did the voters deserve?
* Charles Hoskins Jr, who was arrested and booked for Assault Family Violence by the the Pct. 6 Constable, was just hired by Garza as "jailer" and placed in charge of the entire radio communication system.
The list goes on and on, but why beat on a dead horse?
There is no house cleaning, no reform of its staff, and its hiring practices – if that what employing your political and financial backers in exchange for their political support can be called a policy – appear to have, in fact, gotten worse.
This March 27 the department will host a job fair for jailers. Want to be a jailer? You, too, can enlist.
The New York Police Dept. had its "Rogues Alley" which listed all known lawbreakers and criminals and their photographs.
Is the Cameron County Sheriff's Dept. working up a Rogues Alley of its own?

What a JOKE of a department. This "Lying Sheriff" along with his corrupt administration will run the department down worst then it's ever been. Hope the FBI, DA and County Commissioners and County Judge do something quickly to this department.

Carlos Martinez was a law enforcement teacher at Rivera and worked as a police officer for Port Isabel and was fired after his DWI.
He obviously was dismissed from BISD as well. I'm not sure how he was hired by county with this pending case!!
