Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza late this (Wednesday) afternoon announced that he, the Brownsville Fire Department and Rescue, Texas Department of Public Safety Marine Unit, and game wardens were at the scene responding to a report that a car had slid off into the water off the Jaime Zapata Memorial Boat Ramp.
It was, apparently, a false alarm.
The accident has not been confirmed and as of press time rescue teams had not located any vehicles or persons in the water. Garza, as if from the scene, later posted that the search would resume today (Thursday). So far, no vehicle had been found and no one has been reported hurt. Today, the search was called off and chalked up to an unfounded report.
But what to us is also noteworthy about Garza's post is that he is currently in Las Vegas attending a sheriff's association training and business conference despite the post saying he was at the ramp.
What he should be worried about, inside sources say, is the growing likelihood that the federal government will remove prisoners from Cameron County after a report of a federal prisoner dying in his custody Monday. According to department sources, the inmate had been complaining of sickness for days and jailers had ignored him until he was sent to Valley Baptist. By the time he arrived at the hospital he was in critical condition, they say.
Following his transfer to the hospital, the U.S. Marshal's Office took over custody of the body from the sheriff's department.
More tellingly, when they found only one deputy had transferred him to get medical attentions, they took over and called deputies from Willacy County to take custody of the body. How long before they transfer the other federal inmates to Willacy? It's anybody's guess.
Meanwhile, the musical chairs continue with the Sheriff's Dept. very own "plumbers" unit harassing department staff over photos that appeared in local blogs. One supervisor who was pressured by Chief Deputy Robert Gracia resigned from Civil Process and another has taken Family Leave and has indicated he will resign at the end of the leave.

Reynas have friends within the federal employees who decide where fed inmates get housed. Reynas have stated that they will call the friends to change the inmates and caused issues. Do the research and view the many lawsuits and incidents regarding federal and state inmates throughout the Lucio/Reyna Dictatorship years.

Sheriff's biggest mistake since taking office was making that inept moron his chief deputy. Barking absurd orders to people that he has absolutely no idea about. He's never been a real cop but is the savior of patrol. He's never worked in a jail but this clown thinks he has all the answers and can turn things around single handedly. Hey Sheriff put your dog on a leash He's costing you more than you know. Let the real officers do their fucking jobs
