(Ed.'s Note: There are some differences in the mailers from Hidalgo and Cameron counties, both of which happen to be looking for detention officers (jail guards.) Difference in starting pay is a major one, to be sure. Hidalgo County pays some $6,000 more for guards, and then adds a nice hook if you are continuing your education with education pay starting at $600 to help you get an associates degree and up to $2,100 to help you get a PhD.But there is another major difference. In the Hidalgo County want ad, it clearly states that it is the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office which is looking for jail guards. And it shows what appear to be jail guards happy to be doing their work and in good spirits.
The Cameron County want ad features the name of the sheriff (Eric Garza) twice; once on the badge at the top, and again on the bottom featuring his photo, That photo by the way, is the same one used by Garza in his campaign ads when he was running for the position.
So it gives one the impression that it is not the office that is seeking detention officers, but rather the sheriff himself. It's must be nice to have a continuing political campaign funded by county taxpayers.
During a recent commissioners court meeting, it was disclosed that some 70 jailers have left since Garza took over on January 1. Garza claims that he has filled only 20 of the positions And the department is rife with rumor that the shortage in jailers has created a dangerous working environment and has sparked riots by unruly inmates at least twice.
Will potential candidates take the bait? Garza is also under the gun of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards to provide an adequate number of guards to insure the inmates' and guards' safety.)

I'm glad Hidalgo county pays more but Cameron county should be ashamed they do not pay at least $50K. Neither county is paying enough to support a family. Democrats opposing a living wage.

What does this all have to do with the Females death inside City jail well lets begin;
1.Not enough Jail personnel on duty due to no overtime.
2. ONLY ONE Patrol Supervisor on duty and that supervisor must remain in the Office to conduct three In Person Roll Calls at 3pm, 6pm and 8pm as ordered by Patrol Commander Bill " No Balls" Dietrich..So where was the Supervisor when all this was unfolding stuck doing Roll call...The same Patrol Supervisor then must go and check the Airport to make sure the Officer assigned there have not left there assignment.

4. Allowing the Training Division to put 7 Officers in training all from the same shift...
5. Assigning Patrol Officers to Dispatch, City Jail, Records Division and Municipal court all in a effort to save money!!! At what cost??? So Chief Felix"El Chapo" Sauceda- Bernal can impress his lover City Manager El Rata Bernal with all the money he is saving$$$$$$ the city..
6. All these actions have placed Officers and the safety of the public in jeopardy!
Now with three huge law suits pending under the watch of Chief Felix El Chapo Sauceda-Bernal who has proven to be a total failure and is fixing to cost the citizens Of Brownsville Millions of Tax Payer Dollars due to his Incompetence and total Misalignment!

Pretty fucking sad on the salary for detention officer, especially since the sheriff is making over a hundred thousand? And with just over a hundred days in office, has only proven that he is not up to the job and then brings in very questionable people to fill positions. I understand that Hidalgo County has a larger tax base BUT the CC could pay a higher salary? I've looked at the 2020-2021 budget and some of these elected officials are making ridiculous salaries for doing nothing! Case in point, the JP' who we all know that some are not doing the job and some not even available for calls. To that idiot, eddie trevino and the CC commissioners! Get off your asses and do something about it.

No, the salary is wrong. More money is needed to support a family, wife, children, mother-in-law etc.
The Salary is not determined by Mr. Garza, it is something that was established prior to him taking over. He can only correct one step at a time.
Now that they are no longer paying the extra money for staying on unemployment, he will have more people applying.
