FOR DESSERT AT THE HUDSON ELEM. CAFETERIA? HUDSON JAM

(Ed.'s Note: In what has become an annual rite for the neighbors of the Brownsville Independent School District's Hudson Elementary, monster jams have appeared to accompany the start of in-person classes.\

Motorists reported that the traffic congestion stretched from the intersection of Seville Blvd. in front of the school to Chick-fil-A to the west and Dana Road to the east toward Old Port Isabel Road. They bottlenecked at the entrance to the school.

The district attempted to allay the problem by purchasing a property off Draper Dive at the rear of the school leading to Jaime Zapata Road (AKA Coffeeport) Apparently, neighbors on Draper objected to the potential for traffic spillover to through their neighborhood and the project was quietly dropped.

Add the further complication of the Texas Department of Transportation building sidewalks down the middle of FM 802 (AKA Ruben Torres) and you've got a clusterfuck by design twice a day. Should anyone of the residents require an emergency vehicle in those neighborhoods during school opening and closing, well. all we can say is that we wish them good luck.

TxDOT claims the medians will "facilitate the flow of traffic," but the photos belie that assertion. Let's just hope the frustration and exasperation don't trigger some road rage incident or some medical emergency involving school kids does't occur.) Or (wishful thinking), maybe the BISD will actually go through with the outflow through Draper to Coffeeport.)

Hudson? Nah. Hanna, Gonzalez, Perkins. They were ALL WORSE than the pictures you post. I live by Hanna, it took me 22 minutes to get from one light to the street intersection. In those 3 schools, NO BISD police directing traffic, NO officers on site, cars going opposite ends, kids from ages 6 to 18 crossing right in front of your car without taking any precautions. You can't blame COVID, the governor, the county judge, Trump or Biden for that. YOU CAN blame individual campuses administration and the BISD police for NOT PROVIDING proper assistance. WE KNOW how parents (Mexican, Anglo, young, old) drive and NOT FOLLOW proper transit protocols.
