THE SCOOP ICE CREAM FACTORY: THE COOLEST SPOT D'TOWN

(Ed.'s Note: The newest addition to the downtown goodie offerings is the Scoop Ice Cream Factory located in the shadow of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Among its offers aside from scoops of all kinds of ice cream flavors and smoothies, are gansitos, banana splits, shakes and paletas of all flavors. Our particular favorite is the concoction above which is three scoops of mango and one of chamoy topped with a dusting of Tajin chili powder. It is delicious and very filling. Just ask Danny and Alex over at the Kraken. After a hot day on the downtown sidewalks, it provides a peaceful respite as you go about your business. Of course liking the concoction. Liking something that every other stand in Brownsville sells.

Over price, no parking or get a 10 dollar ticket. Downtown is too expensive and it's easier to go to McDonald's, Stars, Sonic, or go to HEB and get a gallon of ice cream 🍦 🍨 🤔. Too many dead beats downtown and too many bars. Waste of time and money 💰 forget it.

Free parking? Hell, the whole city management staff including the "Director of government affairs" and the HR director get free parking on ant metered parking spots. They are all too lazy to walk the two blocks where they require all other city employees to park their personal cars. All these employees are shortchanging the city coffers by not paying the meters like all the rest citizens. So much for "Total Alignment" where leaders are supposed to lead by example.

No store like this at the mall not going downtown any time soon but I go to the mall often - and the survey says: service the winos and the gringos homeless install meters under the over-passes so they can have pick-up and delivery services...
and blue covers over the meters of course

Is there anyone within the city commission that would have the courage and prohibit the city manager and it's entire staff to park their personal cars on metered parking spots downtown? These so called leaders should be setting the example for their employees and park at city plaza parking areas and most importantly, letting the citizens of Brownsville pay the parking meters which help pay for their overinflated salaries. By the way, these abusers are easily identified as they all have a "special" permit on their dashboard which exempts them from paying the parking meters. Enough is enough of this abuse.

Funny how we all complain about downtown parking, homeless, the Matamoros people (not now because of the pandemic), if you are over 50, downtown didn't have parking, we stil parked, we WALKED, we paid the parking meter, we took the bus. We complain about over priced ice cream or "Paletas", but the popcorn factory at the mall charges $6 for a small popcorn that you can buy for $1 at the dollar tree (and it has better taste), go to the mexican restaurant on Washington EVERY MORNING and you will find that BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET are full with cars that PAY the parking meters to have their breakfast at that restaurant or at the 9-11 cafe. Back in the day, Neisners (El Gran Mercado) had a store with a food fountain, Kress and Woolworth had food fountains, even Walgreens (corner where payless was) had a food fountain and YES, you had to pay parking meters. Get out of the RGV and paying a quarter for a parking meter is NOTHING compared to what other cities charge and no, there is no free parking downtown. You want to hate the mayor, I agree with you, he has not done a good job, but insulting him will not get the job done. If you think you can do better, instead of insults, do a run for his position and show the citizens what YOU are capable of doing. The ice cream place is at a good location. Back in the day, it used to be one of the best florist shops in Cameron County. Right next to the church, young people running the place. Don't knock it before trying it. If you think our city is a dump, please drive up north, you will not be missed.

Don't stop the abuse this city will go to the pot if the abuse of taxpayers funds are not used illegally.

Who in hell would open up an ice cream shop in the middle of the homeless, winos, beer joints, whore apartments and no parking spaces, do you think the church will let people park there to go buy an ice cream cone? I THINK NOT

Hummmmm just wondering........

Why don't you complain about postings insulting Mexicans? You seem like a racist republican can't take the heat get out of the kitchen and yet you continue with your insults, proclaiming Mexicans commit incest.

Hillbillys are known to commit incest within their families and have been doing it for centuries, so you are very familiar with the term.

Your red-ass becomes very evident since you keep quoting your idol trump.

Get a f*** life idiot TRUMP LOST quit insulting people TRUMP LOST.
