"WE ARE BRINGING MOVIE MAKING BACK TO BROWNSVILLE..."

(Ed.'s Note: Motorists on 12th Street between Jefferson and Adams just past the Immaculate Conception were detoured Wednesday as a film crew shot scenes for a movie – a romantic comedy to be called "Switch Up" – which they hope will resurrect the city's position as a film maker's destination.

In the picture at top the scene depicts two actors depicting homeless, one with a dog and another in a cardboard box, as they await instructions from the film director.

The film personnel – mostly from Brownsville – include Tara Pirnia, Marcella Ronquillo, Elizabeth Avellan, Melissa Bickerton,Angela Blair, Tina Randolph Contogenis, and Peter Banderas.

Go for it, guys! Down in front!)

Movies here portray us as a "Border Town," bro. No need to pump these bozos up. Tell them to film a comedy in Brownsville.

You picked the right place for a homeless movie. Downtown Brownsville. Abandoned, with new street lights. Just like in the movies.

Quit hating!!! Above making judgement on one scene. We need to start motivating and supporting. There is tremendous amount of local talent in our communities. Before typing your negative comments, stop and say something positive. It would make the world a better place and maybe allow the crabs to get out of the bucket.

Reading comments and looking at pictures makes me think most of these people are between21 and 50. In the 70's and 80's Brownsville WAS the jewel of the RGV, when today's adults and city leaders were babies or not born yet, a couple of HOLLYWOOD movie makers came to Brownsville, major Mexican stars made movies in Brownsville. I have Mel Gibson's autograph, Pedrito Fernandez and Maria Rebecca (La Nina de la Mochila Azul), Resortes, Silvia Pasquel (she married and divorced a local person). Then, GREED took over and our city leaders (lack of true leadership) and local apathy made McAllen the diamond and Brownsville the cubic zirconia, but unless you lived through those times, you cannot recall or talk about them.

The crabs got out of bucket the and ran off to McAllen where the grass is greener and not like Brownsville. The COB spent millions of taxpayers monies to make downtown a brand new ghetto to make homeless people feel unfit to show their faces in this home-grown film. Millions of people will pay good money not to see this Garbage movie.

Elizabeth Avellana is Robert Rodriguez's ("El Mariachi) ex-wife.

Without seeing the movie it's hard to know if it represents Brownsville badly. Only advantage is that if it goes well for the film company, they will do more and maybe the next one will show Brownsville in a better light
