GRAFFITI CHARGES OVERDONE; DROP THEM, MOVE ON...

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Drop the charges.

As Juan pointed out no real damage was done to the actual graphic thus it's inconsequential.

Paint over it.

Move on.

Everyone WILL REMEMBER those three words and the young woman bold enough to take on the establishment that appears to be ignoring the people's position. The people who believe they are now without a voice or say in how things happen in this town.

The people who have been here forever, through thick and thin with this town are now dismissed as rabble rousers, disgruntled, etc., nothing more. That's a disgrace. The people are disgusted with the disconnect by city management and lack of inclusion with this growth through progress, which is being poorly handled for the middle- and lower-income residents.

There should have been checks and balances like rent control for five years while the citizens adjusted to all the growth and financial increases that come with it. A slow increase in property taxes instead of double-digit increases.

The fact that not one of our city administrations in the past ten years planned to ease in the middle to lower income citizens by whatever mechanism are in their control is a disgrace. They did nothing. No planning, no nothing. So, yeah, people are upset and rightly so.

This was "Good Trouble." It shines a light on a very serious situation about our citizens being thrown under the bus for mainly the profit and progress of others.

No one was harmed in this act of rebellion. Unlike January 6th, where law enforcement was killed, doors and windows smashed, property stolen, defecating in the US Capital and calling out names of elected people for hangings.

That is serious. That is destruction. That is an offense.

Drop the charges. In the interest of repairing the breakdown with your citizens, drop the charges.

Luis Saenz the same district attorney who is in charge of handling this so- called misdemeanor is also the same D.A who allowed hit and run offenders to go free. Not to mention sex offenders also. So, what do you expect from this lay person? Yet he allows to set bond and expect to prosecute for graffity? Check out who the graffity offended and check their deep pocket conspirators, and the thing speaks for itself. A Res Ipsa Loquitur issue.

Correction should be "graffiti""

Common sense - let's move on

Her issue is valid. Put property tax controls in place.

This should have been done years ago. The new people moving in pay the higher rate. Brownsville citizens are grandfathered into the lower fixed rate. Whenever the property sells, the new owner pays the higher rate. Eventually these older residents will die and their properties sold, but there is no reason to force them out like animals. Plus, everyone who has invested in Brownsville over the years, can enjoy the gains with appreciation.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that RGV people already pay one of the highest property tax rates in the state, despite being the poorest.

Yes drop the charges.

It's just wild that this energy from the mayor wasn't there for the George Floyd Mural. Nobody has mentioned it even once in this dialogue. And it's Black History Month too. Anti-Black, pro-gentrification leadership can go to hell.

This is a misdeamor? Upset about the mural being vandalized?

We are upset you are giving away free emails and identification tags to NON employees. Shouldn’t that be a crime too? Giving away city assets?
