His C'mon Y'all invitation to his swan song insinuates that the Laredo native recruited by City Manager Noel Bernal to polish up the city's image through the wonder of public relations and slick presentations may not be headed too far afield. An astronaut suit and rocket motif may indicate that he is merely going to shuttle 23 miles east toward Boca Chica. Just a wild guess, but could it be SpaceX, maybe?

In this case, the buzzwords are that the mission of the department is "to tell Brownsville’s story through strategic forms of communication."

With department employees leaving in droves – there were three resignations in one day this January and another five a the end of 2021 – it is obvious that employees there are not happy campers under self-described communications and marketing guru and Director Felipe "Flip Lightyear" Romero III.
Romero, if you'll remember, was one of those Laredo wonder kids who – at a $100,000-plus salary –was brought in by City Manager Noel Bernal to teach the local rubes how to enhance the city's message to its residents, but hasn't gotten beyond the usual buzzwords like "total alignment," etc.,
And, of course, the goals of the department are "to be an internal Communications and Marketing agency that positions the City of Brownsville as a thriving, healthy, safe and innovative community." You get the drift.
The Department has four divisions: the Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau, Brownsville Television, Communications, and Creative Services.
Yet, about the only time he has relayed any type of message was when he was overheard belittling a Brownsville Herald reporter with Mayor Trey Mendez during a press conference.
The woman has since left the newspaper because of the lack of support from the daily's management.
Even if Bernal does move to replace Romero, it might be a little late since there is virtually no one left at the seven-person staff. In fact, it might be a little late to get rid of him since there is basically no department left, don’t ya think Bernal?
Some of the latest peccadilloes include the design of custom boots for Charro Days with the Mercedes Boot Company to be paid by the city and includes a pair his size to keep. $400 boots! Must be nice.
There are many self-serving moves reported coming out of that "department" like Romero using the city's Sams membership for personal use, and the possible collusion with a vendor for big signage projects, allegedly his business partner. Conflict of interest?
Fact is, some local media personnel say Romero has even tried to sell his services on the job to local media. There are even reports of an investigation into an alleged "improper" relationship between Romero and one of his subordinates.
Are Romero's days counted as the city tries to straighten out this implosion? We'll keep you posted.

Laredo rings a bell, the Laredo Texas A & M is as we speak being under Federal investigation for being used as a decoy by the gas and oil companies to send "students" to AZERBAIJAN. AZERBAIJAN known for its oil and gas abundance. This corrupt scheme was set-up by our so-called Henry Cuellar, almost sure that the other two amigos, Filemon Vela and Vicante Gonzalez are also in with the scheme, all paid dearly by the giants the gas and oil companies. The Laredo T & M was sending students to and from Azerbaijan to teach them how to belittle, domineering become arrogant so-called political leaders on how to steal land and royalties from heirs.

Should have been fired long ago when he tried to get the herald reporter fired. She should go to his going away party and also warn his next employer.
You are correct when you mentioned that city employees are leaving in droves due to piss poor management. The so called "Total Alignment" concept is nothing but Total bullshit as leaders lead by example something nonexistent on city management staff and most directors.
Rumor is administration changes coming to public works and the library.

Check the HR Director same uses citizen tax money to get English classes instead of paying it herself. Not 1 class but like 3 and has still can’t speak it well to speak with city employees maybe look into her education here in US. Coincidence she got hired and became a US Citizen. Use city card to pay lunch when out of town gets paid too much and can’t pay her own lunch and gets car allowance when she works from home. Commissioners look into it pal of Felipe turns left eye knows he smokes chooses not to say because they help her incompetent.
