Special to El Rrun-Rrun
Her name is Kathryn (Kathy) but she calls herself Kitty, and she owns a fine libations establishment called Southwinds off the southbound frontage road before reaching Price Road.
She is inviting the public to a feast of Cajun Shrimp Boil starting at 5 p.m. today. Her kinfolk came to Brownsville in the 1950s with their shrimp boats and chose to remain here. Her son Lindsay, who was born at the Mercy Hospital, learned the Cajun culinary traditions from his parents and family and now is considered a local Cajun chef.
Kitty (whose real name is Kathy, remember?) says Lindsay cooks up a unique shrimp boil using the traditional Cajun spices and a few of his own creation.
"He uses the shrimp, corn and potatoes," said (Kathy) Kitty. "And he prepares the shrimp with Cajun spices. It's authentic Cajun cooking. The public is welcome to celebrate Fat Tuesday with us."
