In a later game, the Pearland Texas team also lost to Tennessee 7-1, ending their Williamsport run, also just a win shy from making it to the U.S. Championship game against Hawaii.
The Texas loss was just their second in 17 games dating back to district.
Of the 20 teams in the competition, both teams ended among the top three in their bracket, Matamoros in the International bracket, and Texas in the United States bracket.
We, of course, would have loved for them to meet in the Big Game, but can only admire their grit to compete at that level. In articles all over the world, Matamoros was referred to as the city directly across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas, while Pearland was said to be near Houston.
This time it wasn't because of Satanic cult murders, poverty, or cartel violence. It was about the world-class excellence of these kids at their sport who live right across the charco and who are surely related to some of our Brownsville families, as many local residents are.
We tip our baseball caps to both of them for putting us on the map through their skill and determination. You made us proud. Gracias, boys!

Those kids made both sides of the border PROUD. Being a border child takes PRIDE (on BOTH SIDES of the border). You think we have it bad? Try going to Kentucky, Tennessee, even New York and California. Liga Pequeña Matamoros AC did a GOOD JOB. They don't have the means that American kids have, they see the sport as a GAME TO ENJOY.
