FUNDRAISER FOR JERRY LOPEZ SURGERY TO BE HELD TODAY

(Ed.'s Note: Known to his friends as Jerry, Geronimo Lopez Jr. has been known for years by local residents and politicians who gathered at his father Geronimo's popular Texas Lounge since the days that it was frequented by the likes of Adolfo "Bedo" Betancourt, JP Tony Torres, D.J. Lerma and other elected officials and law enforcement types when it was located on the second story of Joe Zayas' land development office on the corner of Coolidge and 14th streets.

Later, when Lopez Sr. moved it to Paredes Line Road and, even later, to Central Blvd., Jerry helped his dad run the business. His latest venture was operating George Gavito's Barrel Lounge next to the Oyster Bar which burned down a few years ago. We now learn that he has come down with a colon ailment and is in dire need of emergency surgery.

His friends have reached out to us and asked that we let our seven readers know that they will hold a BBQ chicken plate [they misspelled pollo, Apollo, bless them) fundraiser this Saturday [today] at the Escondido Bar at 1228 E. 14th Street. Plates are $8 and are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Here's wishing Jerry the best and encouraging his friends to stop by and assist him in his hour of need. We thank you in advance. Animo, Jerry!)

THE BEGGING NEVER ENDS -

Trump Begs Supporters to Donate for ‘Upcoming’ Lawsuit Against CNN

So far, the legal action is non-existent, but Beggar Trump, a fake billionaire, is raking in cash off of the threat.

Idiot Republicans fall for it.

GOP officials refuse to certify primaries: “This is how Republicans are planning to steal elections”

Republican Election officials in three states refuse to sign off on primary results in a preview of likely November chaos.

It's dirty, and Republicans are willing to do it all to stay in power. Is this America, or what?

When is the surgery? You need to report on its outcome. I mean, you ask us to care, so you should too.

I hope we can all agree that teachers are an extremely important resource in the development of and future success of our children. What could be more important than that, except for their spiritual development?

Sadly, though, if you look at what we pay teachers, it would appear that they aren’t very important at all. What a terrible mistake and disservice to both our children and our teachers.

In reality, it has come to the point that the only way a person can survive on a teacher’s salary is to be married to a spouse whose salary is sufficient to offset the lack of income from the teaching spouse. This is embarrassingly wrong on so many levels. What happens to the single mom teacher with a couple of kids?

My own daughter is in this situation and has recently taken on a second job as a waiter at a fast-food place just to get by. This is a college graduate with 20 years of teaching experience. This is shameful.

We need to fix this now for our children and our teachers!

Haber, un comentario del paciente. Que nos diga algo de su tragedia. Sus palabras ayudaran, porque el hombre en peligro no miente.

August 9, 1974 - Effective at noon, Richard M. Nixon resigned the presidency as a result of the Watergate scandal. Nixon had appeared on television the night before and announced his decision to the American people. Facing possible impeachment by Congress, he became the only U.S. President ever to resign.

Texas minimum wage rate is $7.25 per hour in 2022. Workers receive a lower minimum wage in Texas that exceeds the Federal Minimum Wage of $7.25. The Texas minimum wage applies to most employees, with limited exceptions, including certain tipped employees, students or part-time workers, and other exempt occupations.

Yes, we teachers are a bunch of "huevones all we do is scratch our balls and pick our noses." This is why everybody should make it their goal to teach. Teaching is as easy as pie. I am being sarcastic but if you think teaching is easy "dale gas."
