HORRIFIC CRASH BETWEEN TRUCK AND STATE TROOPER

(Ed.'s Note: We have not been able to determine whether anyone was hurt or killed as a result of the crash between the pickup truck and  the Department of Public Safety truck in front of Besteiro Middle School on Southmost Road (FM 1492) in the city's southeast side.

We'll keep checking periodically during the day to see if the DPS  or city is forthcoming on possible injuries to the trooper or the driver and passenger of the other vehicle. The accident happened at approximately 10:30 Friday night.

Authorities said they believe alcohol may have been involved in a two-vehicle accident that left a DPS trooper with minor injuries Friday night.

Later in the day, the DPS told  MyRGV.News that a 2002 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck collided into a Texas Department of Public Safety patrol unit, failing to yield the right of way to the trooper, the DPS told MyRGV.News.

Reader investigative finding: Someone was not paying attention.

If it was the trooper, well, another black eye, after Uvalde.

If it wasn't, well, someone is lucky.

New Yorkers help asylum seekers cruel Republican Texas Gov. Abbott sent to the Big Apple -

My name is Emily Kimberl. I live in a building right next to one of the hotels being used to house the asylum seekers (Park West Hotel on Central Park West between 106th and 107th).

I had met one of the families while on a walk with my dog and they expressed a need for clothing. I quickly ran up to my apartment and threw together some snacks, toiletries, and clothes that they could have.

After hearing about all that they needed, my neighbor, Rachel Nelson, and I reached out to friends and family asking for donations and very quickly got $1,000. We then went to TJ Maxx and Target to get clothing, toiletries, snacks, and even games for the kids staying there. I’ve attached photos of all that we were able to provide them.

I think a lot of New Yorkers are looking for ways to help, and what these people need is EVERYTHING. The biggest ask has been clothing and shoes, though.

We brought the [things] directly to the hotel. They have a room [where] they’re collecting all of the donations. I’m sure other hotels will accept too.

Thank you,
Emily

UPDATE CITY -

- What became of Gilbert Velasquez? His daughter-in-law came on here recently asking for money. Something to do with Gilbert's health. Did he make it, or did he pass away without fanfare?
