Perhaps it is time for a shallow, yet with-it woman such as Jessica Tetreau over at City Hall. She's up for it, it appears. Better her than the vacuous lad Cowen, I'd say. Tetreau has grown during her time as a multi-term city commissioner. She seems to have the pulse of the moment with her ideas and votes.
I am sure that Mss. Montoya will soon unearth her real reason for running, as well as maybe her vision for tomorrow's Brownsville. I suspect, however, that he will only see her as a female Eric Garza (the sheriff), as his previous writings about Ms. Tetreau do mirror his approach with the sheriff.
Alas, I do not see an Anglo as mayor. Not that they can't do the job Trey Mendez so devalued, but, well, Brownsville is Hispanic through and through. An Anglo mayor would be a return to yesteryear...and no Valley city deserves such a heartless fate.
But, yes, let's hear what she has to say. (not that we should ever put so much stock in what a politician says. They lie and now, as we continue to see, lying as an elected official is in vogue.)
City bloggers need to help in the recruitment better candidates. They seem to believe they have the power to judge them, so...have at it, boys.

Of all of the candidates running she is the only one that has proven herself and not only that but it’s time for a female mayor. She has made many changes and I think people have underestimated her devotion to this city. This woman has definitely worked her ass to get where is now because we all know it was not handed to her. Why do the Cowens want to control the port, BISD and the city??? They think we are stupid and don’t notice and can’t read between the lines. We are just tired of corruption to its max and it’s time that someone does something for the city not just brain wash us with their power or last name. And Erasmo sir please take a seat (at home) you have run so many times that we just think your name is part of the ballot. This interview strikes me as a divine imbrication of Commissioner Tetreau's political ambition and her actual accomplishments. Sometimes, to voice such an image is a good thing. But only if the community is smart enough to discern it.

Honestly, my respect to the lady but really the city needs new city council members. She was given the opportunity for several years to really bring a change to the city but really nothing that I could see was accomplish. Just to mention the streets lack of attention and repairs and from there I can just go on and on and really it is not funny. Now she wants to become a mayor and I believe that she will rapidly mellow down on her promises and quickly begin the comfort and laying back habits. Nope, she will not have my vote. I can tell that she wants attention and be grand above all and the City does not need this mentality. I urge the citizens to be heedful and select New Candidates.
The elephant in the room for many in Brownsville especially someone who has been in office for 12yrs is PUB and its fraud to the rate payers, not a peep about that. Brownsville needs leaders with guts and integrity and character not a rehearsal of campaign promises.

Carlos Cascos would be a better candidate for mayor, but he won't do it cause there is no salary.

She knew and acted that she was surprised about Tanaska mess. She put her appointment person at PUB board and never did her due diligence. She also voted for more taxes by going along with the resaca fee. How about the maintenance fee? Where is these monies going to? She claims she has done so much but what? She claims she is business person but doesn't get her hands dirty by not going out the district? Bike and hike trails but can't fix the streets because of no money. She is all phoney and Tanaska mess will bring her down. A lot people are angry on the entire current commissioners and lousy mayor. I for one would vote or trust this person. She needs to go and show off her money and car. She's a show off and people see through her lies. Will Juan put this opinion.

The city does need new leadership. City manager does not know how to manage a team to keep city clean, especially the main streets. While the city has many poor areas, there is no excuse for the dirty city filled with trash at corners and old tires on sides of roads. Keeping city clean should be a the expectation of the city commissioners. They have not done a good job in holding city employees accountable to ensure our city is always presentable. Of course this is just one piece of the city there are many other issues. I pray the city brings out candidates that can guide the city toward a brighter future.

What has she done for Brownsville? Same old same old! Need new blood.
Jessica's "proudest achievement" was being elected as the first write-in candidate in the state. She did win twice since against viable candidates like Sergio Zarate, Pat Ahumada and Cata Presas-Garcia so she obviously has strong support in District 2.
The tipping point for me was when in 2019 Jessica introduced a motion to rename historic Fronton Street to honor an Anglo profiteer who'd made a fortune utilizing minimum wage labor in three factory/warehouse buildings. Tetreau ignored the sincere pleadings of the residents of Fronton Street who did not favor their street's name being changed. So much for representative democracy and viewing constituents as "family."
One could also question whether or not Tetreau presents the dignified image expected of a city's mayor or, if her experience in a "small business" gives her an understanding of the needs and modus operandi of industry.
Anyway, I look forward to the participation of Jessica and the other candidates for mayor in the forums.
I disagree with some earlier comments. Jessica said very little of substance in her responses to Juan, relying on platitudes and generalities.
Those complaining about Eric Garza are the same morons that are voting for Jessica Tetreau Kalifa. Some people never learn.
Is there a dress code in the city ordinance about having the major dress as a professional and not a stripe-pole dancer. All she does at the meetings is play with her hair and looking at her reflection on what we all think is the fomputer - it is a mirror and she is contantly asking, "Am I the fairest of all? I say no and he attire would be a disgrace to anyone who is suppose to be representing the city with dignity. No thank you. She sided with the McNair Family to change the Fronton Street name to McNair Family Drive. She and the majority of commissioners ignored the Fronton residents.
During the Tony Martinez, years she went along to raise PUB rates for the failed Tenaska plant, and when it failed did nothing to help nor hold anyone accountable. All that are in office and are running have failed us. You'd have to be stupid to vote for the same candidates that have done nothing for the people, but themselves. Adios! You had your chance!

Honest question. Why are the Cowans trying to control the Port, BISD, COB and GBIC? Disgraced Sylvia Atkinson herself claimed to be a very close ally to the Cowan family. Leases, contracts, permits and property purchases by those entities should be carefully examined.
Both Tetreau and De los Santos have my full support after being the only two commissioners that had the guts to vote out Sandra Saenz from PUB.
Cascos is a quitter… left as CC judge n quit at the state level with no explanation… 7,000 voted in favor of the arena n he made a public cry against it. This is why he lost to Trevino… another loser. Carlos, as u well know politics is bad for you health… stay home and take care of your aging heart. All she knows is to grandstand,hang out at all the functions and parties , park her tesla on the sidewalk at the zoo, demand to be driven by BPD at the charro day parades etc (Lets not forget, always dressed in her trashy/ unprofessional attire). Just a few of her “strengths and qualifications “ now that she’s running for mayor. As a commissioner you were supposed to look out for the interests of your constituents not only your own. Your responsibility was to Brownsville residents in your district and as a whole and what did you do?? Nothing !! Zero Streets are mess, alleys are full of trash, but most importantly never questioned the abuse/pillaging of taxpayer dollars( Tenaska fiasco, Hike and bike trails, Casa de Nylon $$ etc). And now you want to be mayor to continue the Tony Martinez - Trey Mendez traditions .Enough said !!
I’m impressed with the quality of the interview, the questions, prepared and written in advance, well thought out. Juan shows a new side of his talents beyond written word.
The lighting was very good as well as the slides. The piece had a 60-Minutes-esque feel.

Juan the formula for any candidate to win for mayor is a very simple two part deal, this is what the Citizens of Brownsville deserve: 1. A refund of the $29 million plus that PUB has on this failed Tanaska deal, folks deserve to get some of their OVERCHARGED for 5 Years of more money back it will average out to about $325.00 per account more or less, better than nothing but send out a check not a credit on my bill. 2. to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law all those involved in this failed scheme from the former BPUB CEO Bruciak, ex fainance director and CCO too, plus Ex-Mayor Tony Martinez, current mayor juan trey , attorney eddie trevino and current and former board members of the BPUB and any city commissioner who was involved. Thats the formula to win, I hope someone takes this challenge. Is any candidate willing to carry this torch? How about you Mr. Ermasmo Castro? Got nothing to lose and maybe something to gain. Just a thought.
The all need to be investigated all of them and if found guilty prosecute all of them and sent all of them to stay with sylvia, limas and conrado. WHAT A GROUP and include that group over at the children's camp prosecute them also.
