City workers have cordoned the building on the Levee Street side and closed the portion of 11th Street from Levee to Elizabeth Street altogether.
The collapsed roof is not visible at street level so we were unable to get a good photo of the extent of the damage. However, if the inspectors decided to cordon the building, they probably preferred to err on the side of caution.
And, of course, pedestrians on 11th Street sidewalk ignore the warnings. (See photo at right.)
City inspectors have indicated that they will red-tag it so the city – since it's a city-owned building after local downtown real-estate mogul Abraham Galonsky donated it to the city – will have to fix it before it can be used again.
Speaking of Total Alignment, another building up Levee street is also in need of a roof. It is on the corner of 13th and Levee streets and received a $75,000 BIG 2.0 grant for restoration.
The "restoration" only got so far and now the building only has one wall also facing 13th Street buttressed only by rotting wooden beams.
The recipients of the grant – Felicia Fruia-Edge and John Edge got a permit to remove the asbestos and the contractor instead removed not only the asbestos, but also the roof beams and the roof.
Will the city inspectors also red-tag that building?
The Capitol Theater Building, by the way, is directly across Levee Street from the El Jardin Hotel, itself now under remodeling and restoration after pieces of glass windows and roof tile and mortar from the front facade have come off and dropped onto the sidewalk below.
Man, talk about Total Alignment, at least on Levee anyway.

Maybe I can get a pink brick!
I see something altogether different, Montoya. If the mural money came from Musk, well, it did not come from "taxpayers" like yourself, so that Bitch is out.
Whoever owns the Capitol should be fined for letting the building rot, thus endangering passersby, afoot and on vehicles!
Blaming the city is your usual knee-jerk reaction, so we'll grant you that one more time. Imagine what you and others would say if the city decided to bulldoze that goddammned decaying building?
No, pos no. Se enrabia ese Montoya. Y, madre de Dios, luego viene su "scribble, scribble, scribble".
get real, guey.

There's goes the resaca fee, Maintenance fee, new property taxes, to fix somebody's building that the city brought or got? The COB cannot fix the streets, traffic system, illegal panhandlers on our streets, illegal garbage dumping in our streets and alleys. What is the new mayor and sleeping city commissioners going to do? NOTHING!
(Whoever owns the Capitol should be fined for letting the building rot)
I've heard the cartels used it to stash migrants and drugs.

No busco trabajadora gorda o trompuda. Simplemente que se haga el trabajo sin quejas y que no me roben.

The local d a just woke up and he's warning residents of schemes that fraudulent fundraising for Buelah victims is possible.
The only problem here is that the Buelah happened in 1967, go back to sleep its not time for re election.
Lol @ commenter from 11:11. The City OWNS the Capitol Theater in case you didn’t know.
Vacant buildings will fall down. Owners should be put on notice. Taxpayers cannot pay for clean-up.
Nothing is forever.
Totally agree! That building should have kept up by the owner. Since it hasn't, the city should come in an take full possession.
Another Galonsky mess the city has to carry and pay for. The corruption is heavy.
