BROWNSVILLE WOMAN DIES OF MENINGITIS AFTER SURGERY

A Brownsville 31-year-old mother and social media influencer in Texas died last week after a months-long battle with fungal meningitis contracted after plastic surgery in Mexico.

Crystal Villegas died on Sunday at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas, where she had been fighting the serious infection attacking her brain and spinal cord, KVEO reported.

Her husband, Juan Tapia III, announced her death on Facebook.

“She fought hard for 4 months and refused to give in, and even though she lost the battle against this deadly disease, she gained something so much greater. My crystal gained her angel wings,” the post read.

Villegas contracted the infection after undergoing cosmetic surgery at the River Side Clinic in Matamoros, Mexico, in March. Just three weeks after the procedure, the mother of three started getting severe headaches and was soon checked into the hospital.

According to the CDC, the clinic is one of two in the city associated with nine deaths from fungal meningitis cases. Both were closed in May, and those who underwent procedures requiring epidural anesthesia from the start of the year until May are considered at risk for contracting the deadly infection.

Villegas had an online following and posted fitness and life content.

In an interview with the news station shortly before her death, Villegas spread awareness of the condition and urged others to be careful.

“Enjoy life, don’t worry about how you look or anything like that. This whole thing about changing the way we look, it’s not worth it,” Villegas said.

Why change the way you look? Your children are still going to have your DNA. Maybe that will be the next thing, if it isn't already. Changing the DNA of a baby to get the look that is wanted.

What the hell did she want? Bigger tetas or a bigger ass. I have never hear about the Catholic's Church opinion on cosmetic surgery. God created our bodies if we go alter our body are we committing a major sin? Just wondering 🤔...

Juan Que perdida tan sensible.

Any repercussions for these clinics or should I say butcher shops?

These ladies don't deserve to lose their lives like this, regardless.

Sorry to the family! But, that' what happens when you go to a third world country to get medical aid of any kind? Sure, the numbers of death are probably small in percentage but when it happens? Its a story! I guess now you know why we shouldn't allow illegal aliens into our country? They can't afford to live in their country nor get adequate medical care, so they carry diseases. That's why they come into our country where the democrats want their vote and give them all kinds of handouts while Americans suffer to survive and pay taxes to make it comfortable for illegals.

No one forced them to have these procedures. It was THEIR choice. And in Mexico no less. Any surgery carries risks, in any country. It is very unfortunate and sad , but ultimately it was their choice. Remember, these were not life saving or necessary procedures, they were cosmetic. The outcome was disastrous , unfortunately. Very high price to pay for trying to emulate their favorite movie stars, social media influencers, singers etc. RIP
