Before that, he served as CEO and Executive Director of the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation. He is currently a board member of the International Economical Development Council in Washington D.C. and says he will focus on serving there and devote more time to family.
Although he would not be specific on the reasons for the separation, Mejia said that apparently the Chamber felt he had completed the job of restructuring the foundations of the organization to improve its presence on local, national and international levels.
Other versions of the separation say that Mejia was not allowed to address the Governor’s Small Business summit Thursday in McAllen where Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addressed business leaders which he had coordinated and he was miffed at the slight and agreed to part ways.

Do they know the owners of all the local vendors downtown?
Do they have meetings with the downtown businesses?
Do they touch base with the City of Brownsville to promote downtown?
They have programs, workshops, meetings with new businesses, but what do they really do for Brownsville.
Does the Chamber of Commerce have a website listing all the local businesses?

The moment Annette Franz assumed the chair of the board, the Chamber was plunged into chaos. It was her whim that forced the search for a new CEO, and in her ever present misplaced judgment, she brought Josh into the fold. But he wasn’t a savior; he was a ticking time bomb. A grifter with a silver tongue, Josh wreaked havoc within the Chamber. The board, without Annette Franz at the helm, recognized the danger and ousted him.
