PLUTON BREWERY ALMOST READY TO ROLL OUT THE BARREL

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Owner Danny Arizpe and his crew are hooking up the brewery machinery and getting to start brewing local hooch as soon  as the end of September at the Pluton Brewing Company at 805 E. Elizabeth St. in Brownsville.

Arizpe and his master brewer Rollie Peña started brewing their hooch in Arizpe's backyard for about a year and have decided to bring their beer-making skills to Downtown Browntown.

Assisted in the renovation of the building by a Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) seed grant, they hope to be fully operational soon. The building is across 8th Street from the Palm Lounge on Elizabeth.

Arizpe said that while other towns in the Rio Grande Valley in Hidalgo County and even in South Padre Island already have working breweries, Brownsville – the biggest city in the Rio Grande Valley – does not.

He and his partner Joey Martinez and brewer Peña are hoping all that will change. The Pluton Brewing Company got its start among friends in a westside [Las Prietas] neighborhood off the Military Highway and was named after a street by that name in the Galaxia neighborhood. This is where some of the originators of this project grew up, knowing each other since they were boys.

Arizpe and Martinez – along with their partners in the venture – gained a major boost in being one of five winners of the BCIC 2021 StartUp Texas Pitch Summit. They've been renovating the building and  acquiring machinery and materials (grains and hops) ever since.

The spring 2021 contest was a virtual event of four judges – two local and two from out of area. They heard from the startups about their business plans and current operations. According to Positive Valley News, the quality of the presentations was assessed along with the viability of their enterprises. The judges then chose five winners with each receiving a $20,000 grant.

The winners in addition to Pluton were Amor y Pan, Cilantro Sauce, SECNER Holdings and Raw Xocolat. The local startups represent a wide variety of businesses from making beer to chocolate to a keto-friendly baked goods company, and a technology and automation services firm.

Being a winner is validation for Pluton’s efforts thus far, they told VBR's reporter Ricardo Cavazos.

“One of the realizations is that now we have to do it,” Martinez told . “We have no excuses. We have to move forward and open the brewery.”

A brewery in Brownsville? For what? For people to drink and drive? We already know that story.

Do Martinez and Mendez in anyway monetarily sponsor the place?

Just curious.

he Cameron County 2023 appraised value for PLUTON BREWING CO. INC.
is $26,329

That includes Inventory, Furniture, Machines, Equipment, at 805 E
Elizabeth

But the Palm Lounge across the street at 757 E, Elizabeth is off the books?

No record of any personal property taxes being paid by the Palm Lounge?

Maybe the Palm has a Historical exemption?

Church exemption?

Maybe the name for the business is registered in the Tax Office differently.

Anyway, good luck to Pluton.

After visiting Wisconsin this brewery is a joke. Another waste of tax payer money. When are business owners in this area going to begin to fully fund their stupid ideas? Please start writing about things that matter to the population!

Going back to the enormous increases to our local taxes, what’s the status? Please keep us informed. We need your input.

This does matter to the population if they are using tax payers money.

The war department will be the only one making money plus the attorneys, the courts, the bailiffs, the SO and of course all the GODS (judges) we have here.

Pluton is the Spanish name for Pluto. His neighborhood has streets named after celestial bodies or objects.

YOU GUESSED IT, NEXT TO THE RIO GRANDE RIO. How convenient pinches mojados their first stop here is to apply for all the gimmie gimmie free programs. The walk from el rio to the stamps programs is only 10 paces.

Y LINDA LOU QUE? NADA NADA Y NADA.....

I am fully convinced half the comments in this entire blog are written by the same 2-3 dumbasses, Mchale and Barton included. This small business got BCIC money, yet the commenters complain that BCIC should’ve given them money?! These are the same people that vote for Erasmo, Susan, etc and wonder why their lives are as shitty as they are. You people deserve everything wrong that has happened to you in this world, just as the author of this blog deserves the liver disease he will die from eventually (if his hate for Brownsville doesn’t kill him first).
