(Ed.'s Note: The Brownsville Independent School District voted Tuesday at a special-called meeting to meet again Thursday to name an interim superintendent to replace Dr. Rene Gutierrez who has been named superintendent of the McAllen ISD. The board voted to appoint board counsel O'Hanlon, Demerath & Castillo to conduct the search for a permanent superintendent at no extra cost to the district with the understanding that whoever is named interim cannot apply for the permanent superintendent position. Gutierrez is negotiating his employment with the McAllen ISD with the only hangup being some board members reluctance to pay him the the $354,128 salary currently paid him by the BISD.)

Was superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez, cleared by the school board? Was there an independent audit conducted before his departure?
Minerva Pena can serve as superintendent, she would be a great candidate, why waste taxpayer dollars doing a nationwide search when we have the best talent on the school board already? just like in the us govt Bob Gaetz from florida would be a great speaker of the House. just saying el Porter kid.

The district needs to heal. Bring someone who can help get the district back to focus on students. An interim will be a good person to transition from what is now to what can be. For the permanent position, you need someone with the gumption and grit to do the right thing. Clean house, too many chiefs and not enough boots on the ground. Stay away from hiring a politician superintendent or a name-dropper.
Dr. Gutierrez is the best Superintendent ever. He alone saved BISD. He is a role model and paragon of virtue. We should all do our best to be like him. 😉 wink! Don't say anything bad about him until he leaves.
He spoke to everyone and always did his best to fulfill his duties. Let me tell you the man can make miracles. Financially he is leaving BISD in tip top shape and all BISD schools are over flowing with students. Way to go!
The Boardroon looks fine to me. I wouldn’t leave a job that pays very well for a Boardroom that I didn’t’ like.
