A Justice of the Peace has ordered an autopsy on th body of a 26-year-old female inmate discovered dead Friday night at Rucker-Carrizales Detention Center in Olmito.
JP 2-1 Linda Salazar pronounced the woman – who apparently had no medical history – dead this morning at the jail. Initial unofficial reports indicate the inmate had been incarcerated on unspecified charges and that the death was a result of a possible drug overdose.
If fentanyl proves to be her cause of death, it raises questions about how she acquired it behind bars. There has been a spate of deaths blamed on the adulteration of cocaine and other drugs with the chemical across the Rio Grande Valley
Initial reports indicate that there were no marks or bruises detected on the body that would be the result of an assault.
Texas Rangers are in charge of the investigation.
Her name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
This latest death is just the most recent reported at Rucker-Carrizales.

Don’t worry everyone, on Friday everything was fine at the jail on Friday while the sheriff and his team of brass were off at the schools once again with their informative presentations to our youth instead of taking control of the reins going in at 7100.

Jail Standards and Texas Rangers start conducting a good investigaton at all 3 facilities you will fine all the proof that you need to close the facilities.
If you think our jail treats its population inhumane check out the Izalco prison in San Salvador, El Salvador. Not pretty but its doing it's job in drastically reducing crime in the area.

If the woman died of a bad drug laced with Fentanyl that was brought in by a jailer. Now you are dealing with a Murder investigation. Never in the history of the jail has there been a murder committed on an inmate. Way to go Eric Garza. S many comments and no thinking behind them. A person passed away people. She has family, have some respect. You take any opportunity to attack the sheriff. Its pathethic. You know people go in there and stuff drugs into their privates and you don't know what they have in there. You saying it was a jailor or point fault to Mendieta or Mr. Garza is so unfair. You are just not a happy person, or persons, why do you feel such need to take revenge on this people and department.

I agree this is a sad situation. However, her parents should have done something to help her way before she got deep into drugs or went to jail. Just how the heck did they expect her to end up?
