And no, it wasn't Galonsky's initiative to build the new water tower, but rather a long-term Capital Improvement Plan paid for by PUB rate payers. Mendez forgot to say how he and Galonsky protected disgraced former PUB CEO John Bruciak after an audit showed he was one of the main movers behind the failed $500 million gas-fueled electric plant that never came to fruition and who knew the plant was dead in 2017, a full three years before he let the public know. They were just fine to give Bruciak a 60-day vacation with pay at taxpayer expense while he pondered a response to the documented charges. He didn't and retired with full benefits instead.
All that time, while Mendez was on the utility's board and Galonsky was on the city commission, PUB was generating millions from the artificially-high utility rates that he said were needed to pay for the project's bond issues. Mendez's paean to Galonsky rings hollow and perhaps sublimely is announcing a comeback by the former District 1 commissioner and heir to a vast holdings of real estate in the city owned by her family and relatives and who was beaten by political newcomer Bryan Martinez. Thanks, but no thanks, Trey, stick to trying to get more public money for your real-estate speculation and ruminate on your and Galonsky's "legacy" to the city in your memoirs.)

Trey Mendez and Galonsky could have made a difference for the future of Brownsville, but they got distracted from the big picture.
Bad decisions, terrible actions and awful behavior took them from the top of the ladder to the bottom of the ditches.
It happens all the time, but the problem was that their heart was not that much into the City of Brownsville.
People have to love Brownsville to make a difference.
