CHRONICLE OF A "SEARCH" FORETOLD: IT'S CHAVEZ, ALWAYS WAS

I have heard positive comments and reactions of Dr Chavez short tenure as interim superintendent. That is always good because lately we’ve had some real dud’s at that position. That being said , i was somewhat shocked to find out that he was chosen/ voted to be the next superintendent@BISD. When I found out , initially I found it to be good news and felt comfortable with the selection. UNFORTUNATELY, with the present and past history of the trustees behavior , i was also a bit confused. The article touches on this bit of information that caused me to have mixed feelings. He wasn’t interested in position and position was not going to be offered to him. Then, all a sudden a total 180 and he gets selected???? Don’t get me wrong or misinterpret my doubt. Its just that we’re so used to the board of trustees saying one thing and doing another for all the wrong reasons that our minds start wondering what’s REALLY GOING ON!!! I hope and pray that i am totally just overreacting and that the BISD board FINALLY did something right and for the benefit of our children. I personally wish Dr Chavez the best and hope that he finally brings that stability and humility the BISD lacks. Remember you are a homegrown product of BISD/Brownsville, so please make us proud and don’t disappoint. God bless you and good luck !!!

This should be no surprise. What I think is surprising is why would and old man Dr. Chavez's age want to get a job? Does he need money? Does he get off on the power trip? Why doesn't he want to be home with his wife?

Oh, well such is life.

Never trust the actions of the BISD Board and what they say. Dr. Chavez did not want the job but then $400,000 was dangled and he took it. Dr. Chavez has a connection with Sylvia Atkinson and the whole family. Charlie Atkinson and Sandra Powers were all happy and hoping their baby sister gets a job once she comes out. Maybe Maintenance Admin as Alonso the Nurse said was gonna happen. People, BISD is going downhill.

Thank you to the board members who voted him in. We are pleased that he was chosen. He has brought a change in his shirt time and unity. To the two board members who voted no, I am so disappointed you both continue not wanting to work together. I am disappointed I voted for you both, and all I have seen is you both tune in and, time again, manipulate and not work as a team. You want admin to treat staff well, but you both more Elizondo is rude and a jerk! Frank, please separate yourself from Elizondo. I worked for you, and I know you are smarter than to get yourself caught up with Carlos’s web. Carlos you have proven to us voters that you did not deserve another chance to represent BISD. It's a big disappointment having Carlos!

They brought him in as interim superintendent knowing that he would be named the permanent superintendent. Are we supposed to be surprised? Will he be a 1099 employee so he can collect a full paycheck AND continue to receive a FULL TRS retirement check?

Would like to comment on February 21st 11:34 we can go uphill if you clean house at the maintenance and facility Department starting with a maintenance coordinator getting rid of the nurse don't need an architect you need new leadership with New Blood we can make it happen with experience personnel that can run a business and bring up our facilities up to date I guarantee you you will not need change orders too much corruption as is Let's Make a Difference Dr Chavez

FBI needs to investigate Carlos Elizondo. He is out there making promises to his buddies and telling people that come November, he will be in control! Carlos, just be happy you have been given a second chance to screw it up cause you may end up in jail if you continue your shady meetings and discussions you are having. You think you are smart, but you are not. Your MOUTH is going to get you in trouble. Your buddy Marc Lucio can't shut up about the info you are getting for him and that you owe him. Whatever that means.

As I see it, those 2 stuck by their decision to not give the position to the interim , as the board first announced in the beginning. The other 4 lied? These 2 did not criticize the new Supt. but that is not the way it was advertised to begin with. This dog and pony show is an insult to human beings who applied and thought they had a chance. You change the rules of the game at your convenience? Tim Ramirez, I'm beginning to regret that you could make difference. This doesn't pass the "SMELL TEST".

Hey, Frank Ortiz, grow a pair. Those ladies on the board have a pair and have proven they will not allow Carlos to harass them. Shout out to the ladies who have stood their ground against Carlos, who is emotionally disturbed and has no respect for women in general. His poor wife must be very submissive, and hopefully, the daughters see what not to look for in a man cause their dad is scum.

I know Dr. Chavez from his time as a student at Porter, but that was way back in 1974 or so, when he had not knowledge of money and the power that comes with it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he is the same honest and sincere respectful track star he was when was my buddy. What is see is that he has to make sure that he does does not allow the board, this one or any new ones, to micropmanage the district.
we have a bunch or "pant grabbers" but they better watch out if they know what is good for them since Chaves is married to a "pistol packingt Mama" from Porter and she will not put up with any shenanigans like Mrs. Gutierrez.

Jesus, do us proud, do La Southmost proud, bring additional accolades to your name by being what is expected from a superintendent. Study our district between 1990-2020 and work with those initiatives we did so well with. My best goes out to Chavez!

All these dirctors, supers, ceo's, if they were in New York city they would be making 85000 dollars a year, here they make 275,000 up to 375,000 a year. PERO PORQUE????

Anonymous said...

Seriously, here we go again with the manipulation, rudeness, hypocrisy, no shame with these two Board Members. No idea how you were elected by this community! No idea how some community individuals remain blinded by your deceit!

Education, Families, Companies, Businesses, CEO(s), should I go on…. Evaluation -Data-Collaboration, should I go on…means re-evaluating the previous Goals, Outcomes, means that change will occur if the data has changed.

Thank you, Board Members, for selecting the right choice to move forward with Students in mind. BISD needs to get back to Students being #1, priority. Students graduating with approaches grade level is unacceptable. These students have been neglected with the idea that dual enrollment, sports, or any recognition at the Board meetings will camouflage the reality, that BISD students’ educational needs are suffering.

Thank you, Teacher Associations that remain focus on your teacher’s well-being, fair salaries so that they are ready, motivated to teach students to ensure students are college/university/Tech/2 yr grads and successful productive members of society, they are the Future.

Here is an idea for investigative reporting. Why is BISD only considering shutting down schools in only low income areas? How is that even acceptable. I didn't see Sharp elementary on the shut down list.

Anonymous said...

Pay attention everyone! Jesus Chavez is here to do what Jessica, Denise’ Eddie , Tim & Daniella want to do. Just because he goes around shaking everyone’s hand does not mean he will do right by students and teachers. Just wait and see how Jesus Chavez ruins all BISD schools. Just wait and see . Oh, but he shakes hands and smiles while he stabs everyone in the back, especially BISD staff and students.

Focus on Jerry Martinez maintenance coordinator this guy can not manage himself he's always asking kickbacks from employees and vendors

Anonymous said...

The BISD maintenance coordinator is going around telling people that if they hire an administrator for maintenance he will retire and the school district we'll go down like if he's doing a lot

Anonymous said...

Carlos is a jerk! You can't buy class, and this guy has no class. He is constantly talking about people and trying to put down others, following with a laugh. Sorry, Carlos, but we see through you. Beware, this guy will backstab you so quickly to get a buck or two. His poor wife is constantly trying to defend him, and his behavior is pathetic. Thank you to the board members who listened to the community. You all may have made a statement in November but saw Dr. Chavez's direction in little time. You may not always vote with what the public thinks is fair or proper, but this time, you all made the right call. Thank you to the board members who explained their reasoning. That took courage! Carlos, you are an idiot cause we all know that you do not know anything about being ethical.
The ladies, along with Mr. Ramirez, have shown that they are working hard for our district, and you talk out of your ass to try to grandstand. You are talking, and we don't care what you say. You have lost all credibility with your actions, and we can't wait to work against you and your candidates. BISD staff will come together to make sure you do not get control of our district. BISD, WAKE UP AND PAY ATTENTION. This man is not good for BISD. Dr. Chaves, stand your ground, do what's right, and we will continue to support you. You were the BEST CHOICE, and we are happy you are back home.

Congratulations to Dr. Chavez, Great work for a 1976 Glady Porter High school graduate, you have come a long and making us, Gladys Porter high school Alumni proud, not sure if you can stop the damage that Idea ( Founded in 2000) and other Charter schools have done and are doing to the BISD and other public school districts in the valley, BISD has already closed several school campus Victoria Heights is one I remember of from the past and more coming, the focus should be on how to improve the BISD school district in order to compete and can we compete against these charter schools who offer a different type of schooling to their students. Can we (BISD) compete in that arena or not? That is the question? Whats the answer? a G. Porter high school Graduate 1977.

And the " Toxic Four" continue to lie and change the rules in the middle of the game without notifying applicants? Now that's really unprofessional. Was Chavez in on this?

Anonymous said...

First and foremost congrats to Mr Chavez, Secondly, you have to give this guy a chance. Ultimately there was a job opening, he has the qualifications and he was hired. And like with any “new employee “ only time will tell. Personally I believe a superintendent can be good but can be better with a solid group of trustees supporting and advising him correctly. . The superintendent will only be as good as the trustees allow him/her to be. It should be a system of checks and balances. And thats where I believe is the major WEAKNESS—-THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES!!! It should be made up of people that want the district , it employees and especially the children to succeed. It shouldn’t be about themselves, their hidden agendas and the “ SoapOpera” atmosphere they create. Bickering, backstabbing, grandstanding, arrogance, dishonesty are showcased by these people on a daily basis. Enough is enough. Its up to us to vote in the correct individuals that can do the job. Not the rejects , re-threads and family members from the corrupt political circles. As far as Dr Chavez, he needs to be given the opportunity to show what he can do. But keep in mind that he has been handed a district that is in shambles financially and administratively. And not to mention the morale at an all time low!!! Its gonna take some time and growing pains but we shall see and hope for the best. I believe the students deserve the best environment to learn and develop and this is the beginning of a new chapter at BISD. Good luck and God bless.

Dr. Chavez only smiles and ready to collect $450K!!! Jessica Gonzalez has been going around saying she will keep him at 450K-500K and no more. Dr. Chavez is already going to lunch with Jessica Gonzalez. Hes back at Calacas with her and Tim Ramirez and the guy from Maintenance, Nurse Alonso. Also, there is an old man they call Jerry going around saying he is going to the Records Department as an Assistant Administrator because Tim Ramirez told him he needs to get a relax position? Juan, BISD is flowing with money or what? Ese Chavez ya chingo!!!

BISD finally did something right and actually listened to the community. Dr. Chavez is a positive change for BISD. Elizondo is upset because he wanted to bring back Zendejas. How quickly people forget the shenanigan's Elizondo caused when Zendejas was the superintendent. Let me refresh the mind (scoreboard paid with SPED money, rotten meat from Mexico served to our students for breakfast, special privileges' for Carlos wife at Rivera, items purchased from the BuyBoard without being vetted and the list goes on and on.) Ortiz needs to have a come to Jesus moment and realize Elizondo will cause him NOT to get re-elected. Elizondo and Ortiz are banking that the Circus, Chuy is our savior and RapCrew (Caballero, Peña, Castro) get elected.

Anonymous said...

He should have never been considered, not because of his ability or inability to be a successful super but because the board had already voted NOT to allow the interim to apply. I am sure there were more than a few other candidates who refrained from applying for the interim and giving themselves a chance to prove their worth because of the rule voted on by the board. Typical for the Majority Daniela, Denise, Jessica, Eddie and now Tim to make up the rules as they see fit.

Voters should have listened to the Firefighters when they exposed his expertise as a Fire Thief. Local voters are crying about him on the school board but still voted him in. Local voters love to elect the scum of the earth and eventually take it up the ass. Pinche raza pendeja.

STOP Undervaluing individuals’ salary because you refuse to understand the negotiations and/or what it entails during the hiring process. Years of Experience, Knowledge, Recognitions, Track Record, District’s Shambles etc. matters.

You want to blame the majority 4 and the previous Superintendent for the existing problems by refusing to acknowledge that BISD was already sinking financially without any life jackets left and Corruption very obvious, with that one shameless Board Member and yes his wife with special privileges and hiring and not hiring, relocating, etc, you know...it is said that during his term his wife got a good sum of money because apparently she deserved her HC monies, you know exactly.. what actually happens in that school-------------- before these individuals took office and before COVID. February 22, @ 2:48pm bullseye!
So STOP the hypocrisy and advocate for student's education, students' right to graduate at Mastering Grade level, make that a priority. STOP the dirty politics.

Yes vote for the majority, they deserve the recognition for being brave and their families bravery too. Prayers

Comment from 2:48 p.m.

A circus is an organize event if the ringmaster knows how to manage the three rings at the same time. The circus master, in this case, is the superintendent. Now that the position has been filled, the board must hold the accountability reins. You forget that Sylvia Atkinson and Elizondo and the rest of the board unanimously approved the scoreboard with all the bells. Ortiz has the right to share his opinion and as a tax payer and long time resident, I enjoy hearing both sides of the story. The district is a dynamic organization and the majority control. If that is not the preference, then elect the next majority and live with their priorities. The next minority will also share their discontent with the majority...y echale un cinco al piano y que siga el vacilon.

The deputy superintendent Dr Cantu is a lady that cannot be Trust be careful Dr Chavez and board she has lied to the superintendent into the board of all the operations that have been happening in Maintenance and Facilities in our schools they hired a vendor to do intercoms charge Millions and it's not working properly according to Dr Cantu and the presentation of the board meeting everything was completed look into this woman she's not being loyal to the district or to the board members in the superintendent we can cut the fat at the very top wake up

Anonymous said...

@7:41pm this Dr. Cantu lady is so corrupt and no one trusts her word. Dr. Cantu brought Alonso, Nurse as Admin for Maintenance too and she covers all their deals. Her new secre is keeping an eye on her and reporting what goes on. The bigger master puppet is Region One Board Member Ruben Cortez. He brought Rene and now this Dr. Chavez, $$$$. The Board Majority and this Ruben Cortez guy run the show in BISD, not Dr. Chavez. Ruben Cortez is married to Stillman Principal Sandra Cortez who gets everything she wants and always campaigning for her husband. Do Not Vote for Ruben Cortez or his mother Linda Salazar. No more milking the city and now state for their pockets.

Dr. Chavez is already getting involved with a secretary at main office. Already things are looking real bad for this guy. He will not make changes just take pictures.

New regime , new expectations, new hopes and dreams. So the hard work begins and it should start by trimming all the fat that exists at BISD. Not the hard working, dedicated staff but the lazy loafers, snuck in relatives and other “non essential/needed personnel”. And the same goes for all the extra assistant to the assistant , supervisor of the supervisor etc you get my point. And lets not forget the head honchos — theres been serious rumors about that Cantu lady and she’s still there?? Then there’s that so-called Nurse in charge of another dept thats not medical??? ( His fishing buddy is now in Mcallen and he’s still clinging to that extra position???) These are just 2 examples of the many travesties that im sure propagate BISD. My opinion, Dr Chavez, if you’re going to have any sort of success during your tenure you have to begin by getting rid of the culture of nepotism, favoritism and corruption that has infected BISD. I understand that the priority are the students but I believe the most important thing for these students is a suitable , stable , and positive environment in order for them to thrive and succeed. Get rid of the backstabbing, belligerent and negative attitude that permeates your district. Time to clean house !!! And keep smiling and shaking hands but don’t forget to take care of business first.

Where else can we save money career technology main office we got too many coordinators just going around and taking pictures and put them on Facebook too much fat up there in the main office of CTE

Anonymous said...

Did the districtt sell Resaca Elem property to Dr. Cantu's husband after they had said it would be turned into a computer center? I see that Longoria is also being demoolished for whom? Where do you expect all the children from the 6 schools being
closed. I did notice they are all in the Southmost area, so I guess they feel that those students do not deserve a school of their own. Del Castillo can have Morningside merge with them, Garza & Southmost can merge with Aiken, Cromack can merge with Castaneda and the buildings could have a hyphenated name. Del-Castillio-Morningside, Aiken-Garza-southmost, Castaneda-Cromack and such. How can we justify the changing of the name of a school named after outstanding educators who actually cared about our children, some of us included. And are you going to use the money you save by consolidating to buy new school busses to transport all these children. We cannot act on a spur of the moment thought.

Oh, and Jerry only has a high school diploma, so how is he going to be an administrative assistance? Jerry likes to brag and make things up and he does not follow through with what he says he will do. i do understand he and Dr. Cantu are very good friends?

And you are right about the approval of the score board by the whole board, but Escobedo and Coach Joe did put their foot in their mouth, causing us a good supt who was blamed for their shenanigans.

That is why I like to read the comments, for it seems that so many of us know what is going on at BISD and we say nothing cause even if we do, nothing is done to correct it. Que lastima, for our district is The Best Choice with the kids and teachers we have on the front line, but it is messed up by money-hungry so-called professionals at the top office getting paid to go out to eat at restaurants.

Oh, and how can this group of young huerquitas on the school board have better knowledge than Dr. Chavez to advise him. They only vote to acdept or deny the recommendations of the supt - if they only kept that in mind.

Anonymous said...

folks dont matter who BISD brings in as super and can give them a Million dollar $$$$$$ contract, the damage has already been done by IDEA and other charter schools, the genie was let out of the bottle or lamp and now these charter schools are eating BISD and all other public schools lunch by stealing away their students, how do you reverse that trend? This should be the main focus. I dont think anyone has the answer for that one but I am just asking? chon

Yes, how people do forget. The scoreboard was paid for with
TRA funds that the community approved by voting for the projects
that were listed as priority. the problem was that the board as doing all the micromanaging and putting in a word for their buddies for a big kickback. Yes,
Ruben Cortez, Joe Rodriguez, Enrique Escobedo were all behind these mishaps. However,
one needs to really know why the cost of the scoreboard was increased and that it was also approved by the board. Solo una patada - just the kickback! Who was also behind the buying of the state championship rings for Porter? What happened to him! He and the coach both ran and let our supt take it on her own. Puro tanse en BISD, but as far as I know, our supt. did nothing wrong except to have to put up with that board and the one when La Leona de atkinson came in very vendictive for having been plqced on leave for certain actions. Look where she is now>? What goes around, comes around.
