The San Benito City Commission voted to remove one of their own after she was found to have reported that she no longer lived in the city, contrary to the city charter residency requirements.
Carol Lynn Sanchez was removed from the city commission during Tuesday's meeting.
Commissioners say Sanchez was removed because she filed her campaign report in her run for Texas House of Representative District 37 and said she no longer lived within San Benito city limits and listed a Harlingen address as her residence.
Commissioners say Sanchez was removed because she filed her campaign report in her run for Texas House of Representative District 37 and said she no longer lived within San Benito city limits and listed a Harlingen address as her residence.
“I only have about four weeks left [on my term], so I find it quite a waste of tax dollars to be focusing on something so ridiculous like this when there are so many issues in the city that should actually be addressed,” Sanchez said after the meeting.
In her second financial report Sanchez used the Harlingen address that falls in District 37. But the Texas Election Code states that: "He or she must have been a resident of the state for two years immediately preceding election, and for one year immediately preceding election must have been a resident of the district from which he or she was chosen."
“As a lifelong resident of the district, I’ve seen firsthand the struggles our communities have faced over the years,” Sanchez, an attorney, said in a campaign announcement."
There are other curiouser discrepancies, too. In her January report, she lists a political "office held" as a San Antonio (?) city commissioner, Place 4.
One month later, she lists "none" held.
Sanchez refused to step down during the meeting, telling her colleagues they could remove her if they wanted. Sanchez was unhappy with the decision, saying the commission should be focusing on other, more important issues.

In my opinion that city commissioner as soon as she moved to Harlingen should have given up her seat. That would be the ethical thing for her to do. But that is just me.
Isn’t that lady an attorney ? If so she should have known better and should have followed the rules. Rules are Rules.
Ridiculous?? Ridiculous is what these people try and get away with!! She should have known it went against the city charter when she didn’t live in San Benito when she decided to run !! But only when they falter or get exposed are when the excuses and lame statements begin . Its a waste of tax payer money dealing with people like her. They think they are above the law and the rules. “The rules dont apply to them” kinda of people. Guess what lady , TIME TO GO— HIT THE ROAD JACK AND DONT YOU COME BACK NO MORE…. You know the rest.
Se acabo la chiche!!! No mas!!!

WOW. THIS LADY DID NOT SEE IT WRONG FOR HER TO REMAIN ON THE COMMISSION KNOWING SHE NO LONGER WAS ELIGIBLE TO SERVE. RULES ARE NOT FOR ME I FOLLOW NO STINKING RULES. WELL MAYBE IT IS BETTER SHE WILL NOT BE REPRESENTING DISTRICT #37.
Confusion.
She has a house in Harlingen and another in San Benito.
The City of San Benito has to apologize and give her job back.
You will see...
Refused to step down..... but she gave the permission to remove her.
Who had the last word in this situation?
The residents of San Benito....very good people.
Mrs. Sanchez. Maybe now that you live in Harlingen you can run for Mayor or city council. I am sure you would do good here with the wealth of experience you have.

it is said carol has her law office in San Benito and rents in Harlingen.
How much do they get paid? Zero so what's the fuzzz? Is it very important to vote on chicken shit things that only sanbene does? "Oh shit, we the city commission needs to vote (veryimportant) on how many crepas (escusados) can be built here en sanbene, hurry its very important".
PORFAVOR pinches payasos! SANBENE IS LIKE AN ALLEY HERE IN BROWNTOWN AND FULL OF GARBAGE BINS. hahahahahaha!
Honestly, I'm glad she called them out on such a petty issue. Seeing past the bs this comission has been doing.
One of the commissioners says to shop local but they hire a city manager from another city? Like what?
Another saying that the city employees have good healthcare but the job listings from the city website are still not filled.
This city supposed "growth" is all a front. For someone or someone group is pocketing it from this nepotism.
This comission denies anything that a good benefit to their employees and especially the community. It is such an embarrassment for anyone who wants to open up a business there.
Because the commission and the other entities to help the business become successful ends up moving somewhere else.
For they are giving so much red tape.
"Fix the roads!" How about stop the corruption within the city government.
So I guess the commission should just closed a blind eye that she has been living in Harlingen for at least four months if not longer. That is very good logic.
In reality she was living in matamoscas that beautiful city down south of the border by the riogran, oh sorry that's a cowboy song..... sooooooo sorrrrrrryyyyyy
