INMATES RIOT, SLOW RESPONSE TO DISABLED VET'S MEDICAL NEEDS CITED

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

A violent reaction blamed on a delayed response to a prisoner's medical emergency a little after 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the old unit of the old Cameron County jail led to a prisoner riot as local authorities converged on the facility on Harrison Street to contain it.

According to a commenter, the disturbance there was the result of the slow response to a disabled veteran inmate's attempt to get medical attention and the guards' slow response to the emergency.

"The story is huge. A disabled veteran's family is demanding action that although several inmates told the deputies he was on the floor having a seizure, they ignored the inmates until he started to foam at the mouth, and they were cleared out so the veteran could receive an IV and immediate medical attention.

"Also, the same inmates are claiming there were no deputies to help because they were dispatched to a section of Carrizales to deal with a possible riot in Carrizales. Eric Garza clearly has no control over the jail."

This is a breaking story and there have been no reports of injuries or damage to the facility or a statement from Cameron  County Sheriff’s Office on the current situation.

At about 5:30, a sheriff department source reported that an inmate transport van was delivering several prisoners to Tucker Carrizales-Rucker correction facility in Olmito.

People who posted bail by 1 p.m. are being told because of a redirection of sheriff deputies and staff, their paperwork will not be processed until tomorrow.

Don't worry about the community, our schools are safe and that's all that matters.

Henry G. (Of Blessed memory) would have stifled that insurrection in a jiffy. Although there will always be this kind of behavior in ANY USA county jail, it’s up to to department head to have a keen sense of the jail climate by talking to inmates and staff on a DAILY basis. Any supervisor that isn’t on the floor 80 percent of the time will loose control of their facility quickly solely because the staff lack respect and feel abandoned and the county clients in the facility and have 24/7 to manipulate and plan accordingly.

Nobody grows up with the dream of being a jailer all their life. More than likely it’s a transitory position. The dedicated personnel that do make this their profession are extremely undervalued and under paid.

Ask any attorney anywhere in the USA about their interaction with jailers and you’ll most likely see a 90 percent approval rating of our county jailers.

Jailers and the support staff; should, as a minimum, receive an entry level salary comparable to the County Commissioners and have a career track level plan as equal too any other professional matrix schedule in Cameron County.

The Cameron County Jail has been an institution for many years and has seen many Sheriffs throughout the years. It will function regardless of bad talent or a few good years with a mediocre or great Sheriff.

The Cameron County Commissioners’ Court should step up and pay our jailers their worth.

Respectfully,
Silly G.

Why is Guerra sticking his nose in patrol again? The cases dismissed are PATROL CASES. Stay in your lane. You should be more concerned about why so many detectives are leaving. Yes, it's you. Not even the supervisors trust you. Look what you did to Luis and Rosas.

Nothing new for sheriff garza administration.

The inspection was unannounced. The inmates' riot makes me wonder what they were trying to hide or distract from. Prisoners like to behave entitled when all they are is a bunch of low lives.

If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime!

All the sheriff's were at the mall having lunch from 10am to 3pm, and left a message "NOT TO BE DISTRUBED" signed el cherifa del condado mayor

here is the complete story. The corrupt Gabby Garcia gave a man 20 consecutive years for sex offences. He plead guilty. When they took him to the jail at the court, his fellow inmates were told what he did and they attacked him. That was your right. Policy says the deputies never should have told the other inmates he was a sex offender. They had to break it up and he was moved to isolation.

On the disabled veteran Gabby made no arraignments to insure he received care while being sent to Carrizales for processing before being bonded out. He had a seizure because he was denied his medication. The inmates who witnessed it want to talk to the FBI to explain how the deputies just ignored everything until the disabled veteran was on the floor foaming at the mouth. Then a Lieutenant was brought in and he was given an IV and taken out on a gurney. Eric Garza is a threat to every inmate and guard. My sources are solid. There are people within the department who still want to retore order and rid the place of Eric.

The loser didn't die so what's the big deal. No one really cares. They commit crimes and later they are crying like little fagots. Too bad he didn't get the seizure when he was committing the crime.

@3:41 your ignorance is frightening. Being accused of a crime does not mean you did it. Saenz will indict a ham sandwich to look good. Texas has had more people freed from jail than California and NY combined under the Freedom project. Sheriff Garza send a strong message to all veterans, you can die before they can get their medicine or help when the other inmates call out for help for a disabled veteran.

VA missing the boat again.

This VET should have been taken care of before he reached the place where he became a jail inmate.

Maybe the immigrants get better treatment because they're escaping horrible countries.

But some VETS should be treated better.

Possibly his abstinence from alcohol sent him into the seizure

Keep a bottle of whiskey around for such incidents.
