AFTER YEARS OF WAITING FOR THE CITY TO INSTALL BUS SHELTERS, A COMPASSIONATE SOUL ASSISTS BUS RIDERS

(Ed.'s Note: It has taken the city bureaucracy and BUS-Metro a full two years to start installing simple bus shelters which they say could be installed by the end of the summer. But that's what they said two years ago, so we wouldn't hold out breath.

Instead, local riders have come up with alternative – and creative – ways to sit while waiting for the bus to arrive. Some consisted of cinder blocks with a board thrown across them. Others just a simple dairy plastic cube, and others an overturned 10-gallon paint plastic container.

But we've got to hand it to the property owner who lives across Old Port Isabel Road from Walmart, where shoppers take the downtown bus with their purchases. Since the bus riders – mostly elderly Hispanics – already seek relief from the heat under the shade of his citrus trees, he probably figured, why not provide them with a comfortable place to seat while they await their ride.

He even threw a few throw cushions for their comfort and mowed the grass around the sofa. It could be worse. It could be just like it was before he made his improvements with bus riders seeking shade squatting under the nearest tree. The photo below is a scene of the bus stop before the benevolent Samaritan assisted his fellow Brownsville residents.
It's interesting to see that the city's construction schedule of the 30 bus shelters they promised in 2022 does not include this popular stop, even though it's always full of bus riders who completed their shopping and are headed to their various destinations in the city with purchases in hand. Until then, the bus riders have their kind neighbor to thank who placed a sofa inside his property line so they could rest their bones and have a little shade. Will an embarrassed BUS-Metro or the city administration go into his private property and remove the sofa out of spite?)

According to Commssioner Linda Macias and Commissioner Rose Gowen sales tax doesn't matter because it is not TAX PAYERS MONEY. In other words you all have no right complaining for anything. If you can't afford a car, then buy a bycicle. Bus transportation is a luxury to have and expensive for the city. Bus shelters is not a priority. Poor people will always be poor and all they do is complain. They want everything for free. The poor people don't pay taxes and therefore do not deserve comfort. Rose Gowen made has to walk from Matamoros to Brownsville then to her house and she better be on time or else she gets her pay deducted. Y luego tiene que lavarle los cueros cagados de Rose y su esposo.

Juan no disrespect but your last picture is a picture of people standing by a pole waiting for the bus while on the upper right hand corner there is a part of a bus shelter that’s already built and constructed. That structure has been there for years. With that said, I’m not sure what the argument is, there is a bus shelter at this very popular stop. You can take the horse to water but you can’t make the horse drink.

- Frankie Olivo has bigger fish to fry or in his case, a little one …. Let’s start with him no longer sending pictures of his junk to everyone…..you’re embarrassing bro

Good news for Bus riders: Cowen will be riding the BUS after leaving office. The BUS will pick her up at home and take her privately to wherever she wants to go for a dollar. Even to Houston, San Antonio and maybe to Hell too. Cowen cannot ride her regular bicycle but an electric bike on her million dollar bike and hike trails. Electric bikes are good exercise without exercising for her and the other two people who use the bike and hike trails. But Cowen is not all to blame but all past, current and future commissioners to come on the funding forthe bike and hike trails. The citizens of Brownsville come last and they come first when how they spend taxpayers monies.

The bus shelter is on the opposite of Old Port Isabel Road, dumbass. What do you want those old people to do when their bus stops on the opposite side of the road, hoof it across like the Frogger Arcade game?

10:58 AM …… Zeke, first you complain on why they’re making bus shelters??? Now you’re complaining that they aren’t making any bus shelters??? Make up your mind and stop flip-flopping. Your public comments make no sense, you jump around arguments that don’t have any connections and don’t have any substance. Your rambling doesn’t fool anyone, you went from complaining about quality of life to agreeing with it in the same public comment. So you started a statement arguing against it and finished with stating how we need to have improved parks and inclusion for all. Wow! Mindblown! For the record sales tax is different from property tax, completely different. Sales tax is appropriated to our incentive corporations through the federal tax (.0825) that supply funds for the economic development and quality of life projects via shopping. PROPERTY tax is completely different and utilized to fund city functions (COB, fire, police, public works, ect.). These are two different situations one is optional (sales, you don’t have to buy if you don’t want to) and the other is mandatory. For the public’s own good, let’s not listen to this complainer who spreads misinformation anymore! I’m starting to think he likes to complain to complain or to attention seek, get a hobby.
