(Ed.'s Note: This morning my mother, a 94-year-old, insisted she wanted to vote in person on election day at her voting precinct site, A. X. Benavidez Elementary.
She doesn't like to vote early, and insists on voting in person instead of mailing in her ballot. She says she wants to make sure that her vote counts and physically filling in the oval with a judge present gives her confidence her vote will count.
When we arrived at the site, I called the phone number plainly visible on placard just next to the curb and waited a minute or two for an assistant to come to the truck door.
He took her I.D. and voting card and then came back with Precinct Judge Nancy Saldaña who made me read the Voting Riot Act and to affirm that I was who I said I was and that no labor unions goons had coerced her vote.
Ms. Saldaña has seen my mom before when I took her to Benavidez on precious elections. She said the polling workers had wondered what had happened to her. My mother recognized her and she assisted her as if she was her own mom.
"I hope my son treats me the way you treat your mom," said as she held the clipboard for my mother to sign. Then she handed her the ballot and my mom voted. I had debated taking her to vote because she has lost most of her mobility since the last election and curbside voting is probably the only way she could realize her civic duty to vote.
Ms. Saldaña and her staff were kind, considerate and very patient and respectful in helping her to vote. A big thanks and a BIG SHOUTOUT to them!)

A lot of people think that only the votes on election day are respected if there is an issue during the election. Is this true?
