The Trump administration is asking Congress to eliminate funding for Head Start, a move that would cut early education for more than half a million of the nation’s neediest children and child care for their families.
The proposal is tucked in a 64-page internal draft budget document obtained by The Associated Press that seeks deep cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees Head Start. It is still in a highly preliminary phase as the White House prepares to send Congress its budget request for the 2026 fiscal year.
It is not clear if the proposed cuts will be accepted by lawmakers. While Congress often ignores a president’s budget request, the proposed elimination of Head Start highlights the administration’s priorities as President Donald Trump seeks to overhaul education in the United States.
“The budget does not fund Head Start,” according to the draft. It says eliminating the program is consistent with the Trump administration’s “goals of returning control of education to the states and increasing parental control.”

Stop the waste! How has head start helped through its years of existence. We still have the dumbest kids in the United States. This is just daycare service at the cost of the tax payer.

If you want things to change, you should not be voting for people who have a proven record of doing nothing. If we want Brownsville to move forward, we have to vote for people that want Brownsville to move forward. Right now that is not happening because of the incumbents and because of the buddies they want in there to replace them. It's like a snake you cut off the head but a whole bunch of little snakes come out of the belly of that snake. Cut the snake up in several little pieces and make sure that all the little snakes that want to come out or did too.
Head Start has helped. To begin with those students who go to Head Start enter kindergarten knowing the alphabet.
You seem to be ok with corporate welfare and tax cuts for the top 1%. That waste totals out to billions in revenue that end up in shell companies and tax havens. Head Start is a drop in the bucket compared to that. Maybe your children are dumb. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
They are more vulnerable to the sexual predators in the Democratic party.
Don't forget the Republican party. Because if you think that there are no sexual predators in the Republican party the will "grab them by the pussy" you are super ignorant.
