Scenes like this are ae evident all across the City o Brownsville as Republic Services replaces GMS as the city's trash pick up vendor. City commissioners report that their offices have ben flooded with irate residents whose trash has been delayed in their subdivision and apartment complex managers say they have repeatedly complained to Republic offices about the trash piling up and drawing flies and rodents and cats tearing up plastic trash bags and spilling their contents around the dumpsters.
Commissioners say that the transition from GMS to Republic was not well thought out. Some have reported that Republic does not have enough trucks that are equipped with right equipment in its trucks to lift the GMS receptacles. "Republic has had to buy some of the trucks that lift the receptacles from the sides because theirs lift from the front," said one. "It hasn't been smooth."
In one case, even with repeated calls from residents, and the apartment complex manager over three days finally resulted in the piles of trash being removed. But even then, workers left bags and boxes that did not fit in the dumpster piled up against it when the left.
"This was not really thought out well," said an irate apartment resident. "There was little coordination between the two companies when the contract went from one to the other overnight. Hat was pretty band planning. Let's see how long it takes Republic to learn the routes. Until then, we'll have to put up with this."

The City of Brownsville NEVER plans out anything. They just do. As a former COB employee, there is ZERO communication. Commissioners only care about themselves and their pet projects *cough* Nurith *cough*. I'm not suprised this has failed miserably. They take on SO many projects at a time with ZERO communication and they end up being left undone for months/years (Just look at the roads here in Brownsville or the bus stops they promised would ALL have proper seating).
We're just transforming into New York city.
They just need a person to coordinate all the trucks in the ground. That person needs a phone and a small car to run all over the streets and make sure the garbage trucks are working properly They start early and finish late. Increase their salary. Remember business owners are the most grateful people in the City.
We are not transforming into New York City. Maybe we are transforming into transvestites but not New York City.
Are you being sarcastic?
No. The problem is people and businesses that dont pay for trash pickup and use the trashcan of those that do!
Go after those people
Don't blame politicians and contract sellers blame the police for being shorthanded and too busy blame code enforcement and blame tour neighbors for being cheap, uneducated, stingy, and unemployed or not knowing how to recycle.
7:52 You're hired! It's not rocket science.
This okay news but can you do some investigating into the arrest for Driving under the influence of a BCIC board member. Michael Rodrguez? The community really deserves this information.
Busisness owners grateful
Hahaha
All those "grants"
Saving money by Paying sub par wages to illegals and
What do they do for the consumers?
The whole city of Browntown is a dump. Even the people are trash.
Nice Job on the person that dumps a garbage bag on Coffee Port and Ruben Torres. I like the sign they have posted that says no littering or dumping 10,000 to 100,000 dollar fine. Next time I'm stopping and going through that junk.
People drop trash, old sofas and junk in my empty lot. The City of Brownsville doesn't pick up trash, brush, and junk from empty lots. Those properties do not pay trash fees?!!! So I am stucked with all the brush and old sofas. I have to pick all the garbage up, take it to the dump, pay a fee and still pay a fine for having trash in my empty lot.
Supposedly it is not a crime to throw trash in a garbage container. Yes, you can go walking and drop a can of soda in a trash can. Yes, you can take an old refrigerator, and old tires and drop them next to the big garbage containers and now the problem is the local shop that has to resolve the issue.
If the trash is not being picked up the city should return the collection fee to the citizens of Brownsville.
