Republican Gov. Greg Abbott used his line-item veto power on the state budget to strike the funding that would have let Texas join the federal Summer EBT program.
The Legislature had set aside about $60 million in state money for administrative costs. That relatively small investment was set to unlock roughly $450 million in federal dollars – providing $120 per eligible child in grocery benefits during the summer months when school meals aren’t available.

1.5 million of taxpayer’s money is the amount Trump has spent on advertising for himself. He or his GOP base should be spending their own money. That amount would pay for a lot of free lunches for kids. Republicans say they care about the unborn fetus. Once that fetus matures into a child, they are on their own.
There are plenty of programs designed to address youth hunger in the United States, including federal nutrition programs like SNAP, school meal programs, and initiatives aimed at supporting low-income families. These programs work to improve access to nutritious food and reduce food insecurity among children and youth. Any additional money being requested by the communist party is only money that will end up in their pockets.
