Christian Castro has finally been taken into custody by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and booked into the Hennepin County Jail after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tried to shield him from prosecution.
Castro made his first appearance in court Thursday after he was booked in the Hennepin County Jail the day prior.
He faces four counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of falsely reporting a crime. Prosecutors say he shot Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis through the front door of a Minneapolis home, sending a bullet through multiple walls while four adults and two children were inside.
Castro claimed he had been attacked and fired as the men ran toward the home, but investigators say surveillance video, witness statements, physical evidence and his medical records contradicted his story.
