TAKE 2! WOOD OUT, ERNIE, CASCOS DEAL SURVIVES

By Juan Montoya
The carefully-worked out deal between  Pct. 2 commissioner Ernie Hernandez's and Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos to replace former commissioner John Wood on the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority with Hernandez's  personal attorney Horacio Barrera barely survived a 3-2 vote this Thursday morning.
Ostensibly placed as an agenda item by Hernandez with the tacit approval of Cascos, it was supposed to cover the reappointment of Mark Esparza and the appointment of Horacio Barrera to replace Wood at the CCRMA.
Barrera, as you will remember, was the attorney who defended his daughter Erin Hernandez Garcia from the voter fraud lawsuit filed against her by her opponent Yolanda Begum. That brought forth some consideration that perhaps appointing someone close to Hernandez and a longtime personal friend of Cascos might give some people the appearance of a conflict of interest.
"In all  my years of service as a city and county commissioner, I have never seen it get so personal," protested Hernandez. "I can't believe that you would mention my daughter. That's really personal," only to be confronted by Pct. 1 commissioner Sofia Benavides on the issue.
"Do you know how many times you have made things personal with me? Do you want me to tell you how many times?," Benavides asked him point blank.
Ernie said nothing.
Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez asked why the commissioners court was even thinking about replacing Wood, a retiree who has attended each and every meeting and who is perhaps one of the most knowledgeable member on the CCRMA.
"Mr. Barrera has a law practice," Sanchez said. "Everyone agrees that John has done a great job. Why do we need to replace him. If Mr. Barrera can't attend the meetings, then who is going to represent us?"
The court's counsel said that even though there might not be a legal conflict of interest because Barrera was Hernandez's personal attorney and Cascos' friend, he said that the court should decide whether appointing him and replacing Wood would give the public the appearance that a conflict of interest did exist."
Cascos, who had lobbied for Barrera at the start of the discussion, was noticeable silent toward the end as the action got heated.
Stymied, there was a motion to by Sanchez and a second by Benavides to table the item but it did not get a third vote.
Pct. 4 commissioner David Garza then made a motion to accept the item and got a second and third from Cascos and Hernandez and Wood was replaced.
"If I was Horacio, I'd think twice about accepting the appointment since you already know that you don't have the confidence of the entire commissioners court behind you," said a county employee present at the meeting. "I wonder what the payback will be for that vote."

Dan Sanchez continues to grovel for support for his candidacy for County Judge. Sanchez supports John "Dead" Wood, to get votes and tries to tell us Wood is the best man for the job because he attended all the meetings. A dummy can attend all the meetings and yet be just a dummy. John "Dead" Wood is over his head in that position. To criticise Horacio Barrera the way he does....is like the pot calling the kettle black. Sanchez hasn't given up his practice of the law to sit on the County Commission and try to slither his fat body into a new position on the public tit. Horacio is a bright man who is far more capable than John "Dead" Wood.
By the way....what is Wood "retired" from?????

Man, if its not one thing but another in the corrupted confines of Cameron County? Now, this fucking snake in ERnie Hernandez now has his lawyer buddy on a board? I don't care how you call it? He is bought and paid for by the fucking snake himself, Ernie Hernandez! Now, we have to watch this shyster lawyer (comprado) make decisions and vote for shit that will benefit the fucking snake! Oh well, only in Cameron County!

I am hoping that Mr. Cascos voted his conscience as he has always done. I do hope that the corruption tactics have not spread to him, the only honest politician I raved about in Cameron County. Please don't let me and others down, Carlos!

I can not Believe Horacio Barrera would lower himself to get involved with Ernie Hernandez. He has a good family, beautiful wife Linda and great kids. Now he is getting himself in Ernies dirty politics. Well all we can say is "There goes another man we thought was a good man! Triste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! What's up with this song and dance? To the winner goes the spoils. John ran against Cascos and lost; so why did he expect Cascos to behave differently? Ernie recommends a good man for the post and instead of saying Ernie finally did something right, you slander the good guy. You all are a bunch of crabs in a slick bucket! Can't stand to see prosperity!

The question is, how can this not be a conflict of interest? This is the lawyer who represented the crooked election of Erin? You don't think that he will vote in favor of anything that Ernie "Snake" Hernandez wants? I hope that you are your own man, Mr. Barrera but we will see?

What a loser, to associate with people who take pride in not paying taxes and stealing votes. birds of a feather? if Barrera were a legitimate businessman and honest person why stoop to supporting any Hernandez?

John Wood made the same mistake. Hired Ernie and look how that ended

Well all we can say is "There goes another man we thought was a good man! Triste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all Yolanda Begum can't speak the English language correctly so that just tells you what a joke politics in Browsville are to let a woman who knows NOTHING about politics run for anything. Second of all the Begum family pays off this blog to say anything in their favor so of course half the people that read this who know nothing about politics are getting a biased opinion. Third of all Mr. Barrera has nothing to do with this article, he is probably the best most honest attorney who stays out of all this Brownsville drama crap and if he were to be elected to any board it would be a positive aspect for them, and a side note, looking at all these postings makes me upset to see the American education system is failing tremendously because its obvious these people don't care about spelling errors or correct grammar. Regardless Cascos, Hernandez and Barrera are doing nothing wrong but just trying to do their jobs to the best of their abilities.

LOL
Wood, we all know why Cascos wanted him out but thrown under the bus by his own ex employee Hernandez.
Its just a matter of time before Cascos or someone else at the County throws Hernandez under the bus, or into the fed's lap, no one trusts Ernie. under investigate for IRS fraud, voter fraud again, the deals, just another Villalobos
