The dream of Pct. 1 Commissioner Sofia Benavides to provide a multi-service center for area residents got one step closer to reality with the ground breaking for about $500,000 in new additions to the Browne Road Social Service Center next to the Pete Benavides community park.
Commissioner Benavides pictured here with county park director Javier Mendez and his staff and daughter Mary Esther Garcia were on hand to launch the event. The additions to the service center will include a splash pad for kids to to cool off in the hot summer months and new playground equipment.
Improvements include a new concession stand to be manned by county personnel.
The money comes from a bond issue which was split into the four county precincts.
