The Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) unanimously granted Texas Southmost College (TSC) initial approval to establish a new Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) education program during a public meeting of the TBON at Austin on Jan. 24, 2019. TSC's new ADN program will begin in fall 2019.
"The re-opening of TSC's ADN program was one of the priorities of the college and the board of trustees, and we're excited to have achieved it," TSC Board of Trustees Chair Adela Garza said. "TSC's nursing program has a long history and tradition at the college and within our community, and we've brought it back home."
TSC's ADN program will re-open with a maximum cohort of 24 students in August for the fall 2019 semester, and will accept another cohort of 24 students for spring 2020. The nursing program will begin to accept applications for fall 2019 in March. The application deadline for fall 2019 is May 25.
"Re-opening the nursing program is a great moment for the college," said Trey Mendez, Vice Chairman of the TSC Board of Trustees. "For years, allied health has been a rewarding career path for our students and I look forward to them having this option again."
Dr. Jesús Roberto Rodríguez, TSC President, Acting Dean of Health Professions Scott Nelson, and ADN Program Director Beth Kasprisin presented the proposal to re-open the ADN program before the TBON during the public meeting in Austin. Valley Regional Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Frank Acevedo testified on behalf of TSC.
"We are pleased with the unanimous decision of the Texas Board of Nursing to grant TSC initial approval to re-open the college's nursing program, and we are grateful for the support of our health care partners and local school districts," Dr. Rodríguez said.
"With the continued support and commitment of our Board of Trustees, the college's administration, faculty, and staff, we have been and will continue to work diligently to reestablish the ADN program at TSC to serve our students and the community."

Its good that we have two choices here either a teacher or LCN wow what choices. Some gringo might say "que mas quieres"!
The so called nursing programs coming out of the BISD is the worst in the valley. Those kids can't and don't know their jobs. The blood suckers at day and night clinics and at the local hospitals, don't know their jobs. Students need to go to local colleges to get better training period!

The real culprits here are idiot parents that don't want their kids to learn and irresponsible Principals telling teacher to pass ALL students.
And TBH, you can get better basic care in Matamoros than in Brownsville

The 3 witches are a bunch of quieren-ser, pero no se que! When Mrs. Barradas and Mrs. Escobedo were the heads of the Nursing Program no one failed the state test cause they were caring and good trainers, not just there for the money or because they knew someone on the board. Any doctors on board?
Thank God for the CHARITY UNIVERSITY program (Grants etc.) to train nurses.
Hope young people with proper medical high school training get the college opportunity.
Lord knows the hundreds of Engineering students are very smart and get good training but the promise of high paying jobs in places like Space X are too few.
Nurses on the other hand are being imported from places around the world (who are excellent too) but local people could get some decent advantages.

Since when do students graduating from high school from the local school district graduate with a degree in nursing? What the hell are you talking about? Yet another shit-for-brains who doesn't even know what the hell is going on.
And I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it isn't anybody's fault that the ADN program was shut down in the first place except the burros who couldn't pass the state exam. How in the hell is it the fault of the school if they have a bunch of fucking morons who can't pass their certification exam? The only people they have to blame is the students who they accepted into the program.
Hopefully this next "cohort" of students will be smarter than the flonkes who failed out the last time.
I understand with that degree LCN you can travel all over the country.
